That price is in Loonies. USD only!!!! $85000. LOL
Seriously I struggle to see how folks afford a new vehicle gas or EV.
So charging your EV on a trip is like finding primers. You can't reload without primers and you can't go to the gunstore to buy them without the right charger. And it cast as much to fill your battery as it does me to fill my tank but takes much longer.

Aa much as I love cordless power tools, I cant see it working in the auto industry for awhile. It will get there eventually, but at a much greater cost than what they want you to hear.

I see value in hybrid vehicles though I've had a Prius (momma's car) since January 2012 and we like it a lot. 47 to 52 MPG makes it easy to like. Only things I've replaced is the 12 volt battery and a couple sets of tires....and windshield wiper blades. We drive it a lot more than the '99 4Runner which gets 18 MPG..

When I compared it's mileage to my 2003 VW Jetta TDI Wagon I was getting better mileage than she was. I can tow a trailer with it too.

This story is a great example of two of the questions I have had all along regarding EV's.
1. What does one do on long trips? Stop every 250-300 miles for an hour+ to get a charge for $50+? Absolutely senseless. 2. How many homes, apartment complexes, condo communities, etc across the US and abroad have the capacity in their respective electric service to charge on or more vehicle? There are 200+ unit apartment complexes going up everywhere around here and I have yet to see a charger in a parking lot. What about university communities? Are the landlords in Bloomington going to upgrade their student rental properties to include charging stations?
If you want an EV and it accommodates your neeeds, go for it. It's not for me any my family.

I don't understand. The tech simply isn't there. They are pushing this so hard when a two-second consideration reveals a host of real problems.
1. Battery tech isn't even close to good enough in terms of weight or charging capacity. Some physicists say that current battery tech is impossible to improve by much.
2. Infrastructure isn't there. Limited charging stations that are often broke and will be continually outpaced by the number of cars needing them for years. Imagine the 130 million Americans that drive to work all needing to have their vehicles charged tomorrow morning? How many cars are in and out of a gas station in ten minutes? what if they all stayed 30 minutes apiece?? Imagine the strain on the electrical grid that can't keep up in many cases now.
3. Home considerations, really part of #2... Me, my wife, and son all drive to work. who gets left off the charger? Are there cords strung all over the yard when you don't have a four-car garage or even a one car? who pays for the massive electrical upgrades to the majority of houses? As beermaker noted, what about housing complexes?
4. ad infinitum
No one could consider a rapid switch to all-electric cars feasible, which begs the question, why are so many doing it, eh?

I just read a story that between the battery weight and the way the camber changes when Ravian trucks are in economy mode, tires are wearing out in as little as 6,000 miles.

Then consider that this is summer, not winter when headlights (granted they are LED's) heaters, defrosters and windshield wipers are mandatory.
I passed an EV last winter on Rt 30 (60 mph limit) that was going 45 mph, they were bundled up like Eskimos and they were using the ice scraper on the inside of the windshield & a small spot on the drivers side window.

I am guessing the AC would cost a lot more to run than the heater. OMG sounds like my wife's VW Bug. Ain't progress wounderful BTW her mom did not want the optional gas heater when bought new.

Keeping the frost hole on the windshield clear was the only heat generated in that Bug. I bought an electric unit that plugged into the cigarette lighter did work a little better.

An EV is a big old fat pass for me.
Don't want it. Don't need it. Won't buy it.
