I was hunting in the same tree as my 18 yr old son on Saturday (two hang-ons with a lifeline up the middle with the ladder). I got down first and the next thing I know he sliding down the rope. He decided it was a good idea to use it as rappelling rope. I jumped his sh!t for that stunt and told him it was a safety rope with a prussic not and it is not designed as a rappelling system. smh 🤦♂️

Anyone ever use Baker's Camp for a shoulder mount? I have one person highly recommending them to me, and they have good reviews from what I can see. does anyone here have personal experience with them for taxidermy (I know, they are a processor, too). I arrowed a wide 9 on Friday morning I'll get some pics posted eventually

The first shot I heard was Wednesday evening when my youngest son shot an 8 point buck with my crossbow. 😊

7:16 EDT, Greene county. I had only counted about 10 when my son shot a doe and I quit counting.

I had half of an ash tree come down into the septic field. Daughter and I heard it and then felt it when it hit while we were in the house. Had one come down in my yard, too. It's partially laying across the creek...which means it just became the bridge to cross the creek.

Had 1.5 yr old 6 come in early, I let him walk at 30 yds. He was smelling and tadting the wind (which there was none, it was dead calm) as he went by.
After the sun topped the trees in the other side of the field, it was in my face and I felt highlighted. I moved to the stand on the other side of the field in the shade. A little bit later I watched a smaller buck chase a doe 600+ yds ... and entered the woods 7 or 8 yds from the stand I moved from. 🤷♂️ I didn't want to shoot him anyway.
After I got down for the morning, I went to mark a 30 yd distance, looked up, and there was medium 8 100 yds away looking at me. I just squated down and watched him. He came around looking for me but never found me before he moved on.

My son got his rifle back out and finished sighting it in. He slowed down and calm downed and he's now shooting ~1 inch groups at 100 yds.🙂

LOL - you two are assuming the online inventory is correct! Back in 2020, I went to menards to get some decking boards. Online inventory said something 200 boards of the size I needed were in stock. I get there and there was only about 10-15 boards and they were the leftover crap nobody wanted. I've never run into a problem @ Lowes or Home Depot, but I don't normally purchase large amounts of lumber. I usually check for a specific item or two. As for Menards, I have one that's close to me, but I rarely go in there. Regardless, I'm sure it was aggravating to go there for no reason. Things happen, I get it. But when I drove to the next location 20 minutes and they didn't have the reported stock either, that was aggravating. At that point I requested a refund for my lumber ticket.

I can see why you do that but good luck getting someone on the phone in many stores anymore. For stores like Lowes or Home Depot, I check their websites to see if they are showing the item(s) in stock for the particular store I'm going to before I head that way. I do the same and find the location, aisle and bay. Get in, pull, checkout, and get out of there! LOL - you two are assuming the online inventory is correct! Range time is definitely needed. We started to site it in at 100 yds, and his groups left a little to be desired. They were all still in the boilerplate...but not close together. He's going to have to slow down and not anticipate the recoil. My son's axis doesn't scream confidence in th3 accuracy department either. Personally, I think it's his chosen option of food for it. He p8cked a round instead of letting the gun pick one. Sounds like he may need to take the hit and explore several options to see what it runs best. I've told him he needs to buy a few different kinds of ammo and see how they group...but the 2 shots I took were much closer to the point of aim than the 8 of his. I took a shot and it was 1 inch low, 1.5 in right. We made an adjustment and he hits 1.25 inch low, .75 inch right. I told him to shoot again and he hits 6 inches left, 2 inches high. At that point I told to put it away and we'll come back another day. (We were losing light quick) He was shooting Norma 150 gr whitetail rounds.

I just got back from a trip to Yellowstone. There are lots of various animal crossing signs out there, but little visible road kill.
...except when we came upon a car that had just hit a moose cow. It was not pretty. A couple of fire trucks and ambulances were onsite. The car was all smashed up, and the moose was in the ditch.

My oldest son turned 18 a couple of days ago. The first thing some people do when they turn 18 is buy a lottery ticket (then they learn the lottery is a tax on people bad at math). The first thing he did was to buy a new deer rifle. Savage Axis II XP chambered in .30-06 and topped with a Vortex Crossfire II 3-9x40.
Dad bought him his first box of ammo, now he will learn the expense of feeding it. 😁
