You do aim for the head don't you? Nope. I go for the vitals, if possible. But I'll take the head shot if that's what I have to do. Out of all the game I've hunted the last 48 years the only game I DON'T take head shots on are deer, they've got quicker reflexes than all the others it seems. Vital shots on squirrels damages too much meat for me but that's my choice. Good luck this year.

Count me in! I don't know how often I will be able to get out, but I do know that I sure need some help aiming properly at squirrels. I killed about 10 or so squirrels total last year, far more than I have ever killed in a single season before (been doing it for 9 years). I had to stick more rounds into most of them. You do aim for the head don't you?

I saw the name Ruger and just had to stop in and check the thread out. I've never owned a Ruger #1 but I've loved all the Rugers I've had and still have.

I got an invite to show my buck again this year but I'm not going to do it,too much gas to make 2 trips down there. Once you enter a Deer in HRB you’re invited the next 3 years I was invited for 5 years but I only went the first year which was in 2,018 .

Today's adventure. Not bad for an hour! I'd be happy with just 1, that's a great day.

Ever hunt with a dog? Definitely worth it if you know someone who has a dog you should definitely try to go with them and see the dogs work. I've been hunting with dogs for over 30 years, rarely hunt without them. Anymore I mainly go just for my beagle's sake. It's getting to be too tiring for me to do much walking so after I get to my neighbor's place I sit on a log most of the time listening to her howl and bark. I love the sound of hunting dogs.

Congrats to Team 3!! I hope to be back after it next season. This was my lowest-count season since I was 15 years old. Soon as I had a driver's license, I was off to the woods hunting squirrels! Only got to go deer hunting one day last season, too. I know what you mean. I only made it out squirrel hunting 1 time this year. I haven't gotten to deer hunt the last 2 seasons and I doubt I get to rabbit hunt this season either. DAGGONE MY LEG!!!

It really depends on where you go. I hunt river bottom ground in Grandview, Indiana and you'll find white, grey, fox and caramel colored squirrels. White & caramel too, those sound extra tasty.

The hi cap magazine ban and assault ban passed in the Republic of Illinois. I sort of put Illinois up there with Comifornia when it comes to firearm laws. .

Since the owner of where I hunt don't want me hunting anything while deer season's on I have to wait until it's all over. I usually only manage to get out once or twice a season anyways because of my health so it's usually in late January or February before I go and that depends on the weather.

Up here where I'm at in the Northeast part of the State I've only got 1 gray squirrel in the 47 years I've been hunting them. There's lots of grays, blacks and fox squirrels in town but out in the country it's a different story. I just fry them on low for an hour to an hour and a half.

Busted right on through the 100,000 mark. 100393 At 10:59 am cst License increases low deer quotas and the Deer still dying! DNR has to be smiling 🙂 I didn't buy any licenses this year, first year I haven't bought any in 26 years. It wasn't as much about the cost but if I did make it out, which I didn't, but because I'm down to only being about to hunt my 3 acres.

Trail cams are definitely exciting to see what is out there. They can both help you and hurt you. I personally think trail cams spook big mature deer. I usually get one pic at night of a giant and then you never get another pic of him in that location. I think they notice the blink or flash of the camera and then avoid that spot. It is nice thought to see what is around and it is easier to pass smaller bucks if you know a good one is around if a person hunts for big deer. It is also a good tool to see when big deer are moving in daylight hours and to see what makes it through at the end of the season. I am running 9 of them right now. Have fun with it. I was mainly wanting to see what was moving during the day, even rabbits, squirrels and coyotes, it didn't take a pic of anything during the day though. It is right below a walnut tree.

Get one that goes directly live to your phone It helped my brother tag out last night…… If I ever get a better place to hunt I might do that. They just cross our 3 acres to get to the ditch and neighbor's property. I've only seen them on our property during the daylight a few times and it's always been in the summer. A friend hunts back there bu the ditch and gets some during archery but when the guns start going off they go into hiding. The chances of me seeing 1 during gun season on my little 3 acres is almost none.

I finally broke down and bought a trail cam, mainly to see if it's the dog or another animal that keeps dragging her food dish out of her dog house but figured first I'd try it on the path where deer cross our property. I on;y had it out 3 days but on the 2nd night I got this picture, looks like a nice 12 pr 13 point.

Welcome back and congrats on landing a dream job. I've always thought it'd be great to run my own tour guide service out west or up in Alaska but it won't ever happen.

Saw the same thing years ago with a skunk in a pasture when I was groundhog hunting. Last I saw he was still in the pasture but no longer making laps! Some say skunks are a Big carrier of Rabies Yeah, probably one of the biggest carriers I'd say.
