There is a golf course on site. Those that wanted could have an early tee time. We could eat and have shooting sports in the afternoon.

146 different views..... but only 18 votes. I guess the same people keep coming back and seeing how it's going. LOL. Sleayze, wife in labor would be an "excused" absense. I knew if anyone would shed a tear about the lack of libation it would be Chico... Hang in there pal, we'll get through it together. Heck! With all of the multi-talented folks on HI, we can surely deliver a baby with travis shooting the video for a human interest segment on the evening news. ;D Chico can be the gas passer for sleayze if it becomes too emotionally intense for him during delivery. ;D

I'd definitely like to come. It's only an hours drive for me.
I might suggest a turkey fryer for some deep fried fish, which I can bring. Not sure if I will be supplying the fish though. I'm gonna be putting up a pole barn this spring and may not be able to do any fishing.
Since Chico will be there, maybe we could have a machete throwing competition

Who lives close enough to Atterbury to go check out the facilities and ask what we need to do in order to have a group fun and food get together there?

I live close enough (in Nineveh) to the place to practically walk there. I could walk and be on there property in about 5 minutes. I drove by the range last week and it was still under construction. I will drive by again this weekend to check it out for you guys. The way they are changing that range is amazing. I still wonder if it is going to be public and if so, are they going to be charging a fee. It used to be full all the time and you would have to wait for a long time just to get a lane to shoot on. I cannot wait to see what the final outcome is. There are rumors going around that the whole public side is going to become federal, because they are only leasing that area to the state. If that happens then all of Atterbury will be off limits to the public and there will be some really mad people.

Dave....... I'd check on those rumors about Atterbury. According to the IDNR website, it states that Atterbury F&W area was PURCHASED by the State FROM Camp Atterbury. I don't think we have to worrk about it going back to Federal land since Pittman-Robertson money has been spent towards it's development.
The website says that the range renovations started on March 8, 2006 and were expected to take 12 months to complete. From the sounds of that, we will be fine when we have our gathering. See what ya can find out for us Dave!!! Thanks for your help!
i12hunt (Tony), it's about time you started posting........you slacker!!!!

Dave ,
We would appreciate you getting all the details that you can for us.
I'll bet range, skeet field, and trap field time will be at a premium there so it might be tough to get in some shooting contests.
But we can surely try..
Guys,
I think we can do this...

Not sure how it will be set with the new range. I know the old one had 'shotgun' field for hand throwing clays. If they still have such an area, I have battery promatic thrower and a couple of hand throwers I can bring along with 10-20 cases of clay birds.

When we get a report from Dave we will know more about what they offer up there.

Okay fellas - ya got me, the wife and the two boys - the two daughters may not go - but that's them...dang teenage years.
Just need dave to let us know how the range is going - also need to know if there's a long range area. I would be willing to bring along a few "toys" for you fellas to try out...I figure it could be a LOT of fun for everyone (wives and kids especially) who may never get a chance to shoot some of these weapons. Not to mention those that would like to try out an Encore or Contender pistol to see if they want to buy one for themselves.
Here's a short list: HK-91 / FN/FAL / M-4 Carbine / AMAC 50 BMG / M-14 SOCOM-16 / Glock 23 / S&W 99 / CZ 75 / Beretta 92 / custom 1911 9mm / Encore pistols in .243 and 30-06 / Contender pistols in 7-30 Waters, .223 and .357 Herrett / Encore Muzzleloaders / Ruger 10-22 / and whatever I can think of when the time comes.
I also have PLENTY of ammo for these. I reload by the 50 cal ammo can and have stacks of mags as well.
Just let me know when!!! Kevin

The new range will be completely managed at all times. There will be fees for all shooting. The skeet/trap will even have voice command throwers. There is a "rumor" that they are looking into private management of the facility.
