I'll be 55 years old next month, and have been shooting a compound bow since I was 21 years old in 1989. I'm at a crossroads in my archery career and trying to decide what my next archery equipment purchase will be.
I got to wondering about peoples' equipment choices today since crossbows were legalized for everyone years ago. If you use more than one bow type, please choose the one that you hunt with the most.

I'll turn 60 in 2023. Just bought a new Mathews V3 in Sept. , shooting 70 lbs/80% letoff. Figure I have another 10 yrs. with bow god willing. Todays left offs make all the difference in the world. Can set mine to 85% if need be.

I voted crossbow only because that’s all I hunted with this season. Compound was all sighted in and good to go, but my goal was to kill a buck with a crossbow just to say I did. Really time for a new compound as mine is a 2009 quest, but it still kills deer just as dead as the new ones.

I hunt with a ravin crossbow. I can no longer use a compound because of shoulder and elbow problems. I wish I could still use compound as that is what I would prefer been hunting crossbow for 10 to 12 years now

I switched to a crossbow exclusively due to not having the time or facility to adequately practice with a compound.
I've had a Parker for probably eight years now. I've not moved the scope settings since the original sight-in. I've missed one deer with it and that was a 100% yardage error on me. Other than yardage judgement and identifying obstacles, it's point and shoot.

I have a Bear Kodiak Magnum recurve, A Mathews Switchback, a Mission XB320 crossbow, and a Centerpoint 425 Amped crossbow. I use the Centerpoint the most in archery, but I try and get them all out at least one time during the season

I went strictly crossbow. Have a compound I bring in case there’s a issue with my crossbow but keep it in the truck unless needed. Be 64 in a month.

I hunt with a longbow and a PSE crossbow. I voted longbow because that is much more fun and challenging. The crossbow fills the freezer though.

Xbow. For me I doubt I will ever go back to a verticle bow.
Started with a wicked ridge. Limbs started to delaminate 3 yrs ago. Ran to Dunham and bought Centerpoint Sniper for $300ish.
Got to jonesing for a compound after last season,, until I saw the prices. I forgot how expensive archery equipment can be. Crossbows are no different. Coworker has a Ravin. It is a sweet crossbow but man he paid a ton for it.

I've have switched to crossbow since about 4 years ago. For no other reason than the ease and efficiency. The lack of movement needed to make a shot. Way more accurate. Double the distance. All sorts of reasons. I still have my compound but doubt it will be out anytime soon.

Barnett Xbow for me be 64 soon. First bow was a Ben Pearson recurve in the 70's then a Bear Whitetail, then a Browning Xcaliber, then an Oneida screaming eagle.

I'm 63 and hunt with a compound. Bought a crossbow several years ago, shot a couple deer with it and did not like it. Felt it was very awkward, somewhat dangerous to tote around, and just too easy. Gave it away.

So I always appreciate the conversations here when crossbows are raised, no one gets all huffy puffy for the most part and folks are just open and honest. I'll never understand how folks don't at minimum acknowledge the easier nature crossbows are for hunters and hence the reason why their numbers and use are exploding across states (Indiana is no exception).
I appreciate everyone honestly describing why or how they switched over to crossbows, no one is trying to say they're the same as vertical (to me that's as illogical as saying compounds are same as traditionals). I know someday I'll make the switch, in my case I sense it will be years of baseball/softball and throwing my arm apart - but still I will cling to bow season as long as I possibly can regardless of what that means I'm caring with me.
I am curious, those of you now either fully crossbow or mostly - at what age did you make the switch?

I agree.....personally I'll use a bow until I can't make the draw then make the switch. My neighbor is 73, had open heart surgery in 2020. He always had Martin bows plus made his own hickory long bow. Use to tease him that if he was gonna hunt with that long bow, he should wear a camo loin cloth! Anyway, by using a crossbow it has allowed him the opportunity to continue to hunt during archery season. It's a legal weapon now and if that is what someone wants to use, then who am I to find fault.
Since I have never used one in a actual hunting setting, not sure cumbersome they might be in a climber but sure see the benefits when hunting from a blind.

I had a little shoulder issue going on the last couple of years, but it has completely subsided on its own. I haven't hunted archery season the last five years, so I sold my bow to someone who really wanted it. Now that I'm getting excited about deer again, I have to decide what to replace my old bow with. If I go with another compound, I'll probably go with a 50-pounder. Heck, Ted Nugent has hunted with 48# as long as I can remember, and he's highly successful at harvesting game.
My biggest "problem" with getting a crossbow is the stigma associated with them. I only have one friend who hunts with one. Everyone else I know uses compounds. As soon as I mentioned that I might consider a crossbow, I started getting the "don't do it" friendly teasing.
