They can be bad, but more often than not they aren't. The last 2 years I've had run ins with the same group of guys at Versailles. First time they didnt check in for the hunt. They just went straight to the woods. Last year 2 of the 3 in the group set up with in 75 yards of me and shot a deer I was fixing to shoot.

I didn’t care for Turkey run. Get there early and all set up and they let the no show hunters in half hour after daylight.

I have been to a LOT of these, here is my strategy: Scout a couple likely areas, you don't have to go "deep" to see deer. Have a backup plan,or 2. If all else fails and people are set up where you planned to hunt, back out and wait until daylight. Then, find a good tree somewhat away from the orange army. MOST IMPORTANTLY, keep your expectations realistic, this is deer hunting, not life and death! Have fun and be safe.

Last year was the first I personally hadn't killed a deer on one in several years. I usually shoot the first 3 legal deer I can, but expect the unexpected. I've taken a 157" and a 165".

I've hunted public ground in Wisconsin during the gun season and the park hunts are no worse then that. At least the park hunts I've been on.

I have hunted them since '96. Only had a few issues. Otherwise it has been nothing but the most grandest of times with buddies and other hunters met. Like minded guys with the same passion seem to make the most of the moment, and the best of the situation.

We camp at the park (where available) and have met some really great people over the years. It's whatever you make of the experience.
If you are going in thinking it will look like TV hunting or expecting B&C deer tripping over each other you will be disappointed.

Called today to reserve our spot at big oaks for the 13th of October, we got area 13, any tips would be appreciated The bow hunts all have a very low success rate. Find food and or obvious sign and set up. Best bet is to wait until daylight to go in if you've never been. Plenty of old house seats, wells, cisterns, etc that could hurt ya. Once you're up dont be afraid to move if you are seeing movement elsewhere.

Got drawn for Chain o lakes late hunt. My favorite park to hunt. I only pick Pot Crk most often being so close to home. We have been successful many times over the years at Chain O Lakes, and have found several consistent areas. Good luck.

Alright!!! Just got notice a buddy and I both got drawn for our local nature preserve hunt on opening weekend of gun. I even pulled my favorite zone. We have both been very successful there. I blanked on even seeing any last year, but that was with that horrible weather. Only one deer taken last year there, so it will be like having had a year off.
