Put me in the category of folks that have personally, with my own eyes, seen a cougar in Indiana. Couple of them actually. Angel Lange had one briefly that I got to see up close and there was a second one, in the wild, around the Bruceville area. I saw that cat on 3 different occasions and believe it was more than likely an escaped pet. There was a badger killed on hwy41 just south of Vincennes last year. One killed on hwy41 by Oaktown in 2014. My relations who live on a not well traveled road has seen 2 black cats crossing the gravel road, maybe panther etc, but I did see the tracks from them and the lamb they killed. There was also a heifer that they tore up , she was trying to protect her calf. She ran in circles protecting her calf. She had claw marks 6 to 12" long down her hind end and around her neck. DNR confirmed it was a big cat or cats. My mother and father have seen one on different occasions. We have also found tracks by our river, no claws in the print either. I may have never seen one but they are there. I always check my stand before climbing up in it in the dark. Gee thanks. This is just one more thing for me to think about when walking to my early morning stand. LOL I have found some type of critter poop in my stand before. I was just glad that it finished before I got there.

Yep caught 2 in La Porte county , They really mess up a trap set. Had to have DNR help with releasing one. The other we got out of the trap with not too much problem. He wasn't as mad as the first one. My buddy called Sugar Ridge FWL, they said to release it at all cost. He put a wash tub over this one and it calmed down real good after trying to choke it down with a hog catcher,,,,big mistake,,,. Left his foot with the trap on it sticking outside of the tub. They released it and beat feet back to the truck with tub still over the badger. Left it there and went to run more traps came back a couple hours later and he was gone. Have not seen one since. He has several pictures of it on 35mm. This one was caught way down in the southern part of the state about 25 miles north of Evansville. The one Woody posted with the board, releasing a bobcat, with a small notch to put between you and the animal would have worked real well too.

I have a brother working over at Big Oaks. They have a black bear in there for a few months now. Somebody deer hunting had it under his stand and filmed it.At some point it tried climbing the tree he was in and he did something that scared the bear and it ran off. This is all on film somewhere. The guy showed it when he came in from the hunt.Interesting. Wade

Got a mastiff and a st Bernard that'll make that track look like a chihuahua made it. Those must be some big footed dogs.

Wade It was on Big oaks website and facebook for quite some time. THE BEAR was just photographed last couple days outside proving grounds (Big Oaks) crossing a corn field by a local lady. (Assuming same bear) Less than mile or so from Big oaks fence between Versailles and Rexville Indiana.

I think it was the last time it was seen it was just inside the fence at the junction of Old Michigan road and 800s which runs from there to Rexville.I'm 5 miles east of Rexville.
Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can look up Big Oaks website! Wade

Got a mastiff and a st Bernard that'll make that track look like a chihuahua made it. Those must be some big footed dogs. Both pushing 300 pounds. Yeah that can make some craters. You should see them when they run around the yard and make quick turns. Dirt flies everywhere.

Well I bought hit an ostrich just north of Vincennes on 41 once. Was trying to figure out what the heck was running across a huge corn field. I believe anything is possible. Only cougar I ever saw was a pet in a cage in Beanblossom when I was little. I took a coyote that weighed close to 40lbs this week. Didn't officially weigh but first one I couldn't really fit on the stretcher and caught a 38lb one last year that did. Definitely could take a deer down but they will take more fawns than a healthy one. Hawks and owls will take more rabbits though than coyotes I believe. I have caught 4 coyotes since Sunday and 5 this year. That makes 27 in 3 yrs off a 150 acre farm. Believe me 27 would of found a fawn or two or ten in 3 yrs.

I watched that as well. Was amazed at number of pups they have and raise. Explains how there numbers are so high. Interesting reading too about long time trappers who explain how coyotes don't necessarily focus on calves sheep or deer but once they learn that trait, they can pass that on to others in there pack and then they devastate what they focus on. When they do control work on ranches. They know they don't exterminate them but focus on removing that learned trait.

My wife said that about 1AM this morning, she heard a terrible squalling sound outside and looked out the front window to see some poor animal (she thinks it was a young dog) running down the snowy road with three coyotes in tow not far behind. She said one of the coyotes stopped at the bottom of the driveway for a moment, smelled around, then rejoined the chase. She said she prayed that the poor animal would escape.
