All,
A great suggestion has been brought forth on here..
What TOP dollar would you pay for an "Indiana Sportsman's License"?
That license would include:
Combination Hunting, Trapping and Fishing License, All Resident Deer Permits, Spring Turkey Permit, Resident Fall Archery Turkey Permit, Resident Fall Firearm Turkey Permit, and Upland Game Stamp.
IOW - A YEARLY Comprehensive Lifetime License.
Since the IDNR needs all the money they can lay their hands on please choose the TOP dollar amount that you would be willing to pay.
Since there is a LOT of Lifetime License holders on here, please choose what TOP dollar amount you would be willing to pay IF you did NOT have a Lifetime License.
Thanks...

Excellent idea, but I think every one needs to keep in mind you can't run a business(the DNR) for very long with out making money.
It would have to be financially worth while for everyone. I don't think $100.00 is realistic. Not even sure if $150.00 is.
Great idea though and I hope the idea floats.
I have a LL

Amazing how most of the LL's holders are in favor of higher fees to help make ends meet. Maybe a new "supplement" fee to the LL would also help, cause everbody wants to help....right?

Not sure if this idea would result in "higher fees". A deer hunter could drop a C note real quick on buying multiple tags now. $72 on buck tags alone. That C note wouldn't even include the other licenses and tags..

The whole reason I brought this up is because I feel sorry for those who now don't have a chance at a lifetime license anymore and I thought something like this would allow people to hunt the entire season at a more affordable price.

IMHO - A great suggestion. The IDNR is definetely looking at license structures in the coming year. This can be another consideration for them.

LL holder or not, I own a business and I know you can't do things for free. This is a good idea, but like any business, the DNR is going to look at it from a financial point of view. (Are you the guy I talked to on the phone last week who just could NOT believe I don't sell material to customers for the same price I buy them for !!?)

You mean to tell me that you actually try to make a profit with your business? ;D All I know is that I get tired of having to buy a different tag for a different season and this was the first year I've had to do it. I can only imagine what those who have done that for years have felt. In fact, had I not sat down to re-read the regs, I would have gone out during gun season thinking my archery tag was still good to shoot a buck with. Thank God for buying licenses over the internet. I guess if a person really wanted to stretch things out, the additional costs associated with buying a buck tag for different seasons could lead to either people shooting a less mature buck during the archery season so they wouldn't have to spend more money on a gun buck tag or maybe we see a decline in the people hunting with a bow and only purchasing a gun tag. Either scenario is a disturbing one when it's economics that are driving it. Fortunately, the price isn't a top concern for me, but that would be selfish to only think of myself. There are many who would love to hunt all seasons but can't afford it. If it came down to it, it may actually cause more people hunt without a license. If Michigan can do it, why can't we? Why not allow a buck only tag that can be used during any season but can only be used for one buck? Shouldn't we be paying for the resource we take rather than the priviledge to try and take? As citizens of this state, I think we all have the priviledge. Why try and price someone out of a priviledge? These are just my thoughts and I certainly don't want to push them on anyone else.

This sounds like a great idea.
This would solve the question of "what license do I buy for what and when do I buy it?"

The IDNR generates more revenue off deer tags sold than they do off of fishing license sold.......AND A HECK OF ALOT MORE FOLKS FISH than deer hunt!
With a one and one buck bag limit the IDNR got away with this pay per deer per weapon/season system for a long time. No one complained because under a one and one buck bag, the structure made "some" since.

So far.....75% of the folks who voted think that 100-125 is a fair price for a annual sportsman license

Why two different tags to hunt the same game animal in the same calendar year? Following along those lines, why isn't there the same requirement for "early" and "late" archery seasons....two different tags?

Just a thought...................
Are there any "over the counter" license buyers on the deer advisory committee?

Are there any "deer hunters" on the advisory committee? Most of the folks on the Deer Advisory Committee are deer hunters. Probably only one or two exceptions. We have not met in almost a year now. Not sure if we still exist or not.

I don't know.
The people on the committee are dedicated deer hunters (for the most part) and are more than likely Lifetime License holders.
The ones that I have conversed with are very knowledgable and are willing to take in consideration any and all hunters, not just the Lifetime License holders.
I'm very concerned about the upward spiralling fees, but I am also concerned about the IDNR being able to function.
What to do? Good question and that is one reason we are posting a poll and asking questions like these.
The IDNR does monitor this site very frequently.

Woody, My mounting concern is that we price a lot of people out of hunting and thus make people who can't afford to hunt "outlaws". Being new to Indiana, my question would be what improvements are being made to deer habitat with the license fees? Is there some place to go to see a breakdown to what the money is used for when a person purchases a deer tag? A nice pie-chart showing that 40% of our tag fees go to habitat restoration, 20% to administration, etc? It would be nice to know where the money goes. Then perhaps a greater understanding of the fees would allow a person to come up with more ideas. I just don't see how Michigan can charge one time for a buck tag regardless of the season and make it (and pay their people a higher salary) and Indiana cannot. Maybe we're not to the point where people cannot afford to hunt deer any season they want right now, but with the increase in tag prices coming this year we're certainly moving towards that end. As I've said before, that is a major concern for me. We'll just continue to lose more and more hunters every year and you and I are both well aware that hunters are by far the major reason that work is done on habitat, etc. Less hunters mean less income for the IDNR. Less hunters mean less hunting gear being sold in the store which means less money to be used on habitat, etc. Less habitat means less hunting opportunities. This may seem like a long way away but if the trend continues, it will be here faster than we thought possible. What kind of legacy does that leave for our children and grandchildren? Incidentally, I think it's them (the young 'uns) that stand the most to lose if we continue the cost of higher license fees. We need to make sure we get kids involved and stay involved or there'll be no one to fight the fight to keep hunting when we get older. And a world without hunting is a bad world in my estimation. Again, just my two cents here. Not sure if my thoughts are right or wrong.
