Not threatening to quit altogether - just here. I'm with you Dave! It looks like the Kentucky DNR appreciates the average deer hunters more than IDNR. I would like to continue to spend my money in-state but I refuse to be hog-tied during my most favorite time of the year. I'll probably start looking for another Kentucky lease where I can get the most bang for my buck!

I have said this many times before .... dont confuse a "majority" of deer hunters on this site (or even that survey) with a "majority" of deer hunters in Indiana.
There are power in numbers .... if a person feels he can organize enough guys to boycott the IDNR and all seasons they will listen. But it would take a lot of guys. Many more than the "majority" on this site.

I'd like to see these proposals made public (press, media) so the gun hunters who don't frequent sites like these aren't blind-sided when the changes are shoved down their throats,,,and it's too late.

I think using the term "majority" would be fair when a person says the majority of hunters may have no idea these are on the table.
I have talked to a handful of die hard deer hunters who didnt have a clue.

Here is my small thought. Not done any investigating and didn't go check other states deer seasons so I might be off on all my thoughts. Almost everything is based on money now day's right? Well it would seem to me that the more weekends you have to hunt the more money is going to be put out there. I know where I am from we have probably 100 guy's come in to our area from Indy to hunt all day or all weekend. Say 50% go eat out at the local establishment, buy gas buy some food here beer there whatever.... You are now losing two weekends that places can do some prime business in my area. Bow season doesn't bring that to this area. But gun season does. I also know some hunters from out of state that like to come here and hunt because our season is longer then theirs and they wouldn't be able to now because our season is during the same time as their season. So now they can no longer come. Guess I should say they won’t come now! So that is three out of state hunters that are not buying the tags. So that is less money the IDNR is bringing in. I know these aren't the only hunters that won't be coming in. So how much money will be lost to the out of state boys. As well as the money they spend here in food and what not.... I bow hunt and gun hunt. Not a trophy hunter by any stretch of the imagination but like to see horns. But my family always gets together during gun season to hunt. I enjoy it because that’s three weekends that we get to have fun and do things together. It is now shortened by a week and one weekend is a holiday so some are out of town. So now we get to do it just one weekend…. Just takes some of the fun out of it…. It’s all about the Buck….. And that’s a shame…. For once why can’t it be about the hunter??? BB

The way to get it out there is to talk to the local sports editer or writer in your area... I've sent an email to a friend of mine to write something up in the paper about it...

I'll quit deer hunting in IN if they shorten the seasons as proposed. I won't quit totally, but I will be in Illinois on opening day and I won't kill any fricken does any more until it changes back to what it was. Don't fix what isn't broke......no matter what the special interest groups want.

An "elite hunter" is someone who tries to impose their style of hunting on someone else and when they can't convince other hunters to hunt the way they do they change the rules. With these changes we will no longer shoot does. I won't give up deer hunting in Indiana, I will just become a buck hunter only.

HE SAID
I hear Thank you DNR. This gives me 2 more weeks to hunt in the rut without gun hunters. If moving the season out of the rut is so important why not close that time to hunting bucks for everyone? Where I hunt in north central Huntington Co the anterless hunting has really knocked the tar out of the deer population. I have watched success and sightings fall for 10 years to the point I am looking for somewhere else to hunt. If they want me in the field early I will not go to shoot anterless where I hunt.

My local sports writer just emailed me back. Told me he sent a letter to the IDNR and asked for some more info on it. Told me it sounded like it would make a good article... Just a thought guy's but this might work if everyone does this and has the local writer print an article. Just make sure he/she writes on the right side... LOL

You might be surprised at what comes about ...... it is just possible that many will like the proposed changes.

You might be surprised at what comes about ...... it is just possible that many will like the proposed changes. Very true, but like or dislike these changes, I believe the more places / newspapers etc that they get mentioned in the better so that everyone sees it coming and gets the opportunity to voice their feelings and thoughts to those making the changes.

Probably by the time this gets out to the hunters in this state it will be too late. It is up to us to get as much word out as possible and bombard thse people with our phone calls, emails and letters.

I was just thinking... I can tell my 30 or so hunting friends about this or I could tell them and then tell my friend at the paper... With there being no sports stories going on right now other than MLB. Then he would have time and a lot of open space on the sports page to write about something other than the standard sports... Like this! BB Oh I will also tell my brothers and my hunting buddies about this...

This goes hand in hand with alot of other BS proposals and new laws in our Great Country......What is going on and when will us Red, White and Blue Americans say enough is ENOUGH?? I've fought in 2 wars, and each day I think or at least hope things will get better, but in reality they will not unless we Unite and combat what is going on!!

Woody! How about your 2 cents worth. You have been awfully quite on this one..... Gathering my thoughts on this one... Off the top of my head.. I think that the DNR went way overboard on this. I think some fine tweaking would have been much better. If the fine tweaking did not work, Tweak some more. Basically I am saying too much too quick. This is without a doubt the most total revamp of our deer season, ever. There is no doubt in my mind that a 9 day antlerless hunt in October and the Christmas break antlerles hunt would have got the job done. As I see it, there was no need to screw up a lot of the average Joe Deer Hunter's time afield with a shortening and moving of the firearm and muzzleloader seaosns. I do not believe that they could have got buy in from the "stakeholders" on the 9 days in October. As "stakeholders" goes, so goes the NRC. Instead they are going to whizz of a lot of state hunters that do not have a clue this is coming. IFthis passes, and I have no reason to believe that it wont, I would not want to be in the IDNR's shoes next fall when the average Joe Deer Hunter finds out about it. There will be hades to pay then.. More later...

Let the rebellion begin!!! If the number of post in a couple of days on this site is any indication of all the hell that's about to be raised, Governer Daniel's might need to put the Indiana National Guard on stand by. Not going to be pretty.
