Tally me up for 2 more. Awesome day in the woods. Got in at daylight, and there must have been 20 turkeys roosting in the woods. Heard clucks, purs, gobbles, cackles, and yelps. First time I ever saw turkeys in this woods. Saw 8 squirrels, but only got shots at 3...got 2. Almost had one try to run up my pants leg. ;D maddog

Woody, add 4 more to team 7. This should bring my personal total up to 17. I got them this AM. If I would have shot straight on the last one, it shoulda been 5...a limit. ;D maddog

I bought the 39A brand new, in 1974, for $127.95. The ole girl has probably killed over 500 squirrels, cats, coons, groundhogs, etc. The singleshot is the new girl on the block, just bought her this year. Next hunt will be with the H&R, tomorrow or Sat.

Woody, score 2 more for team 7. tynimiller, I took the butt cuff off my 375 H&H mag. Then I took it to a local leather shop along with some .22 ammo. The guy custom sewed it for $8. Works great. maddog

tynimiller, no I don't think he's had time to update the contest. The rifle is just a plain ole .22. I'm hunting with CCI standard vel. long rifle solids. If I'd been shooting straight[and one gray woulda held still], I shoulda had 3 for the day. ;D

Woody, do you need another member for team 6? If so, put me down. If it's closed down thats ok. I'll post three pics of the squirrels I've taken since Aug. 18th and the dates. 8 total. Didn't think i'd get out much because of my back and feet. Have been out 5 times since the 18th, and am feeling better. 2 fox squirrels taken Aug. 18 4 squirrels taken Aug. 21. 2 taken Aug. 25. If I don't make the contest, you can look at the pics anyway! maddog

Right now I'm using a H&R Sportster .22. When the squirrels hit the ground and I'm hunting with other people, I'll use my H&R pardner 20 ga.

dadfsr, like you, wasn't sure how much I'd hunt, because of my feet and legs. Since last Sat., I've shot 8. 6 fox and 2 grays. Mama and I are having fried squirrel and gravy for supper tonight.

I live up in White Co., IN. Been in the seed business for 40 yrs. This is setting up to be the biggest disaster I'v seen. For corn at least, worse than 1983 and 1988. Haven't seen anybody yet cutting, and am wondering about the time frame for those with multi peril insurance.

We got .4" of rain last night up here in NW IN, where I live. Already have corn fields on light ground that are shot. Not enough rain, yet to stave off a disaster on the corn crop. Soybeans are faring a little better.

I can't think of an animal that I would not shoot. My limitationsare my wallet, and alas, my age. I've taken several animals that many have listed they would not shoot. Having been to Africa, twice, I agree with old3arrows. Nothing over there is wasted. Everything, right down to the inards is consumed/used. My son shot a hippo, that fed a local fishing village of about 100 people, for a month.
Now, when it comes to desire, there are a lot of animals I don't have any desire to shoot. Mountain sheep, both here and overseas, just don't hold my interest. Dangerous game DOES hold my interest. But then, my current interest is going back to my youth and hunt squirrels harder this next season, than I have done for years! ;D
Oh yeah. Probably my most exciting hunt was for my tuskless cow elephant, that I took in Zimbabwe, last August. What made it exciting? Walking in to a herd, to about 15 yds. Taking my elephant, then having the herd matriarch give us a charge, that she halted at about 12 yds! The boys were glad I took her, because she had a foot injury and was very emaciated. She had been caught in a poacher's snare, and was missing her hind foot. She fed a small village for over three weeks! The excitment of that moment will live in my memory forever.

Since red[piney] squirrels are unregulated in Indiana, and can be dispatched at anytime, can they be hunted on public lands during the off season? This question was brought up the other day when a bunch of us were talking. Thanks.

I remember my mom having a subscription to that neat little magazine. When I was a kid, I used to read it cover to cover.

Really didn't know where to post this, so here it is on the campfire. ;D
This is the second morning in a row, with temps below 30 degrees, although there has been some wind. How long before we will know what the damage to the hickory/oak trees will be, as far as fall mast is concerned? Will daytime temps somewhat mitigate the temps inside a piece of timber? This has been the craziest spring I've ever seen. Any and all ideas appreciated.
