Please be advised that all personnel planning to dash through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh, going over the fields and laughing all the way are required to undergo a Risk Assessment addressing the safety of open sleighs. This assessment must also consider whether it is appropriate to use only one horse for such a venture, particularly where there are multiple passengers. Please note that permission must also be obtained in writing from landowners before their fields may be entered. To avoid offending those not participating in celebrations, we request that laughter is moderate only and not loud enough to be considered a noise nuisance.
Benches, stools and orthopaedic chairs are now available for collection by any shepherds planning or required to watch their flocks at night. While provision has also been made for remote monitoring of flocks by CCTV cameras from a centrally heated shepherd observation hut, all facility users are reminded that an emergency response plan must be submitted to account for known risks to the flocks.
The angel of the Lord is additionally reminded that prior to shining his/her glory all around s/he must confirm that all shepherds are wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to account for the harmful effects of UVA, UVB and the overwhelming effects of Glory.
Following last year’s well publicised case, everyone is advised that EC legislation prohibits any comment with regard to the redness of any part of Mr. R. Reindeer. Further to this, exclusion of Mr. R Reindeer from reindeer games will be considered discriminatory and disciplinary action will be taken against those found guilty of this offence. While it is acknowledged that gift-bearing is commonly practised in various parts of the world, everyone is reminded that the bearing of gifts is subject to Hospitality Guidelines and all gifts must be registered. This applies regardless of the individual, even royal personages. It is particularly noted that direct gifts of currency or gold are specifically precluded under provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Further, caution is advised regarding other common gifts, such as aromatic resins that may initiate allergic reactions. Finally, in the recent case of the infant found tucked up in a manger without any crib for a bed, Social Services have been advised and will be arriving shortly.
Compliance of these guidelines is advised in order for you to fully participate with the festive spirit.

This spike followed 2 does across the bottom of the hay field east of me and they entered in front of the other blind just after 4:30 pm. The does fed around the creek bottom while the spike headed back south along the creek. The does finally moved south into the thick creek bottom and suddenly all 3 ran up a saddle that deer often use to get up on the ridge about 50 yards out. The does headed directly for my blind and looked like they were going to walk right by it. The spike peeled off a little like it was going to head back down the saddle and I went ahead and took the shot at about 35 yards. I usually stay off the shoulders as much as possible and have taken head shots on does and button bucks that close. There was just so much brush that my only open shot was high shoulders. Heard a lot about that shot, but never took it before because we use the shoulder roasts and blade steaks in with the roast. When I touched the trigger, he went nowhere but down. Shooting a CVA Scout V2 45/70 converted to smokeless muzzleloader. Load for this year was 55 grains H4198 and 200 .40 caliber Hornady SST in a Harvester smooth blue .45 sabot. I had used that bullet before in a sabot for a .50 bp muzzleloader and really liked it. First time using it in a smokeless and I still like it! 😎 I want to know what you think of the shoulder shot when you get dune butchering. I took one once. Never again if I can help it. Way to much meat damage for me. I prefer double lung shot just under shoulder blade. Onebentarrow

Nephews deer this year. He did the European. Mount himself Because of work and a 3 mth old and 2 small boys he did not get to hunt much. He was happy he got the opertunity to take a deer and I am happy for him. His mom and dad did not hunt so he tagged along with me every chance he got. Had him in deer camp sitting in blinds when he was 7 yrs old. Was involved in his 1st deer with bow, first buck and first out of state hunt where he got a 10 pt. Kind of proud of him. Got another nephew on her side was about the same and just as proud of him to. Was with him on first goose and first catch of a mountable fish when he was 9. Nothing better than being with a young child out enjoying the outdoors. Onebentarrow

Went and pulled cards at farm today and got a nice surprise. Had a few good pictures of the buck I took on one camera. I do not have the slightest idea how to get them from there to here but I will play with it and maby post pictures in the future. Also had a buck that was wider than mine but short tines and less mass.

I have a trail camera at a friend of mine’s house, and I haven’t seen a deer on camera in WEEKS. Last night, he sent me a video a little after dark, just pointing his cell phone into the patch of woods and the coyotes sounded like something out of a nightmare. I grew up near a condensed coyote population, but this sounded like A LOT of them. Have you ever seen an entire deer population “disappear” because the coyotes got too thick?? I’m currently pricing NV scopes and 22mag rifles because I’ll not be tolerating this long. The spot that camera in is surrounded by non huntable state land. One side is cut soybeans and the other side of the road is cut corn for about a mile. This seemed like a very promising spot at the beginning of the season. I had a couple of really big bucks, a bunch of does and every doe I saw had twin or triplet yearlings. Last deer I got on camera was the first week of November. Same happened to me around 5 years ago but no yotes. I had been seeing deer in archery then about 2nd week of November nothing. No deer,no sign nothing. We got a snow in muzzeloder season so I walked the aera after 3 days on the ground and saw just 2 sets of tracks. I donot know where they went or why but the next year they were back for the whole season. Good luck on your quest Onebentarrow

Great story and good teaching for others. You learn from your mistakes and telling them may help some one else not make that mistake congratulations on the two deer!

One deer. 2 nights hotel stay. Cost to get drawn at atterbury. New stuff I had to have... don't want to know the cost per pound. Shot one deer. I don't hunt to save money on meat. Way cheaper to buy a cow. By choice. First deer in probably close to ten years. It's not about the savings for me I understand that whole heartedly. My post was just an observation of prices and the value of the meat in the deer and a way to apericiate the hobby of hunting just a little more. Not a dig at anyone. Onebentarrow

Talked to a couple of Taxis in my area, $750-$850 for a shoulder mount this year. I paid $650 for my last buck from the 2021 season. I get that they have to make money but wow, seems a bit steep. At this rate I will be doing euros only. I have dune some taxidermy for my self. I was not extremely fast or slow but from the time I start to finish I had about 20 hrs in a deer. That was over a period of time;not all at once. You bring it in then I have to finish capping out head then split ears nose and lips. Right there I had 3 hrs. Then I have to flesh the hide removing all meat from between lips ears around nose and rest of hide(another hour) then salt hide. If you don't tan the hide you pack, ship, pay shipping, pay tanning, pay return shipping (easy 100 bucks) if you tan your self add 2 hrs in time + cost of tanning supplies. I used a liquid tan that is $120 a gal now. 5 deer max per gal. You can cut your cost by useing a dry chemical tan but it is not as good and will deteriorate a lot faster than a wet tan product. Now you order your form, eyes, ear liners.manican prep(sticky stuff that sticks to the slick form to help glue hold hide inplace) and pay shipping on that which has gone thru the roof. You should have hide glue, bondo, clay, pins, superglue, epoxy, special thread, special 3 sided extremely sharp needle and some other odds and ends. Now you prep the form to put hide on it by snading and cutting nose holes, lip slots putt eyes in with clay and form eyebrows and make it look right. The eyes alone can take 45 min easily. Once all prep is done it took me min 3 1/2 hrs up to 6 hrs if the deer fought me in every thing(makeing the nose look right, lips look right, eyes even and Semitrical ears correct, horns correct all parts of hide in correct posision and hair laying proper. Now sewing the hide and makeing it as invisable as possible. This is a short list. After you have it mounted you have to check it every day for 3,4,5 days to make sure as the hide drys it does not pull or move in a manner that screwes up the eyed, nose, ears, lips or any thing else. Now it is dry you do finish work to make it look great. 1 hr there. So it is mounted you have overhead (lights, heat, water(believe it or not I used a bunch of water. I washed and wrenched each hide a minimum of 4 times) and you pay full fica tax and fed tax and county tax and state tax and tax tax. Granted I was not fast at mounting critters but I did my best on every one to make them look alive. It will take me a bit but I will post some I have dune 20120525_191522 20140601 The bear had 10 foot of stiching. The fawn had 8 feet of stiching and very delicate because of short hair requires lite thread which breaks easily. The fawn and bear were 12 hr days to mount with every thing prepared as much ahead as possible. The fox, coon and coyote were solid 8 hrs to mount Onebentarrow

Indiana Deer Harvest Data as of 11/27/2023 7:00:26 AM 96,217……..going to get to 100k easily this weekend Look's like to me it's gonna be a struggle to get to 115,000 at this point. ( Muzzy generally produces around 7 to 8 K), and many counties also have lower antlerless tags this season, a couple -0-. Talked to my local processors in Ripley Co. and he said they are down about 25% currently, and I know Switzerland Counties total harvest will be down as well. Not really surprised with EHD outbreaks in many southern and western counties last year. Got a call from a buddy Tuesday after opening in the Wells Co aera and he stated that 2 of the processes there had stopped takeing deer because they were full. Do not know if that has continued thru the season there.

We went grocery shopping the other day and I looked at a roast. It was a eye round roast. I about fell over it was $37 and change it would have been maby 3 meals for us. so I went home and got to figuring just what the value of the meat from the buck I took was. I tried to air on the low side of prices from what I have observed in the past and not over estimate the poundage of the meat I accully got.figured tbone and porter house at $10 ribstake at $7 hamburger at $4 all roasts at $7 round stakes $7 and did not include the heart, tongue or meat I boil off bones I use for bbq or Venice and noodles. I do all butchering my self so no cost there. My figures came up over 8$400. Granted I got a large buck with great body weight but never thought that deer was worth over $400 in equil meat at the store and I got a good hunch my figures are on the low side. I know to some $400 is not a lot but to us that is a good hunk of change and we are so thankful to have the meat. It will give us the opurtunity to eat cuts of meat we would not buy in a store. Do not fret. We EAT GOOD ! I supply a lot hunting and fishing and we buy/ watch for sales or bulk purchases. I hunt because I enjoy it. The meat has just been a bonus. I know after putting these numbers on paper I will look at that deer laying on the ground in front of me just a little differently. I have always look at them with respect and reverence and been thankfull but now I wil be even more thankful for what I recieve from hunting.

There is a guy on youtube called ranch fairy that has a lot of good info on broadheads. I am not saying he is the be all end all but his thought process, experance in live animals and he has measured blade thickness and strength along with other things will give a guy a lot to think about. He will bring up things a lot of guys won't think about. Like angel of shot and just what is required to get to vitals, ease of penatration of the broadhead in and thru bone. You will problly need to watch a couple of his vedios to get the information. I personally agree with most of what he sais except shooting extremely heavy arrows and only because of trajectory,so I have opted for a lighter arrow and will take my chances on a little less penatration.

I have to I just never seen someone shoot their own dog then haul it to truck and not take it home …… Thanks for clarifying things. A Friendly reminder to Dog shooters never hurts… I understand. To clarify, some houndsmen will not tolerate dogs running deer. They will shoot the dog, take the coller off and leave the dog. I've never done it but have seen it done twice. I too have witnessed this too
