Got set up about 20 minutes ago. I just heard the first shot. Tad bit early I'd say. 1/2 before sunrise law has always seemed early to me.

Sitting here in the truck with the heater on! Both my sons are in the woods and I am waiting on daylight for the tree rats to wake up. I know why Dad liked to hunt close to the truck. Shoot straight everybody. We are Blessed!!

Was hoping to take a deer with my 357 Maximum but I shot a buck and a doe during bow season and I don’t want to take anymore does off of the farm so I will be using my 17MachII on some squirrels.

I was going to make bone broth from the deer I got last weekend. I have never tried this before so I don’t have anything to compare with. My concern is both deer’s bone marrow was red? I researched some online and found where red bone marrow can mean severe starvation? Believe me neither one of these deer were malnourished. Anyone have any experience with this?

How many of you freeze your burger meat till the end of season and then grind all at once? If so any do’s and dont’s?

I have from Wednesday through the following Tuesday to get it done. That Monday and Tuesday I’ll be in brown county state park. We will be there also. First time I have hunted Brown County Park since the first couple hunts they had there. We usually hunt Versailles or Charlestown. Tried something different this year.

Nothing better than a live decoy. Shot a doe and she runs off and drops. She starts making some noises and here comes a nice 8-point from the other direction. Couple grunt calls and he starts my way but she keeps making noises so he doesn’t want to leave her. Finally he smells her rear end and decides she is not ready I guess because here he comes to me looking hard. Couple more grunts and he stops right where i shot her. He runs off and drops. When I get down both my bolts are within inches of each other. Now I have to get them home and get them on ice.

Yes we have paid before. The regs used to say that fees were not waived except on hunt days? Not sure if they still do?

I don’t think any of the parks are truly a “reduction” hunt anymore. They are more of a “maintenance” hunt. You can no longer go into the park hunts thinking you will always tag three deer. Most probably don’t even see three deer. This was always the goal of these hunts from the beginning, maintaining a healthy herd.

How was the line situation at the gate this morning? We rolled in at 5, and there were 2-3 cars ahead of us. Not bad. I wondered how many guys still needed to take the safety briefing and wouldn’t be able to line up early.

I had a Mercury Lynx (Ford Escort basically) when I was in college and I put that car through it all. We packed three deer in the back of it one time. Got a lot of strange looks running down the highway. A little bit of youth, ignorance and who gives a care mixed together back then.

My wife thinks I am nuts because I literally get hungry when I am butchering deer. I told her while the cuts do look good to me it is more that as I am cutting it up I am thinking ahead to the different meals I want to make. Anyone else?

South end of 27 is flat and thick. North end by the river is more open and some big rolling ridges. Unfortunately I have never done any good in there for deer but honestly haven’t tried in years either. Not much help I know.

We freeze them whole on a cookie sheet and then put them in freezer bags. Just take out how ever many you need, run them under water and the skins come right off.

Finally got into the woods today to do some treestand prep. Felt good to be in the woods and just sit there and watch and listen. The cool temps helped a lot also. A lot of acorns on the ground already also. Seemed a little early to me?

Extracted 7 honey frames today. Around 2.5 gallons. I will be bottling 8 oz squeeze containers in about a week. Should get 32 of them. Given away my 1st batch. I didn't forget the ones that asked for a bottle last year. PM me your address and I will ship. Can you check your list and see if I was one of the ones who asked. 😀

We froze 30 cups of sweet corn and canned 50# of green beans. My wife and I are whipped! She wants to try spagetti sauce and pizza sauce but can’t decide on a receipe. Let us know how it turns out.
