For us bucks are usually named Shooter or not a shooter. We don't name our bucks we usually just refer to them by description "the big 10" "The drop tine buck" *that tall 8"
It is nice to have names if you are trying to track animals and maybe putting a certain deer off limits because you want it to grow another year or maybe that deer is the main target so you gave him a name for easy reference.

The Crush has used this tactic before as well. And as stated the Drury boys have done it too.
They find a tree cut it down and just put it in the field. Lee even drills a hole in the tree and adds his own licking branch.

I am not sure what to think about this. I am glad to see they made some changes but I am not sure its enough to really help. I guess we will see.

Turned the soil in the old pasture for the new food plot this weekend. It is going to be L shaped and be about 1 acre. I will go back probably the last week of August till it up and plant the Winter Rye and Winter peas.
Also checked my two cameras I had out and really didn't have much as far as bucks go just a few spikes and a few small guys. But I have lots and lots of does so hopefully as the season moves on and the bucks start to seperate from the bachelor groups I will get some more moving into my area. I also put out a new camera in a pretty remote area on our property so it wouldn't surprise me if thats where most of the good bucks are hiding.

I am not actually going to plant until late August. I just want to turn the soil and help kill some of the weeds before we plant. I will disc or till in before I plant

I am going to be down this weekend to turn some dirt in a couple spots in preperation for fall food plots. I am just going the route of pre mixed seed. In two small 1/4 acre plots I am going with WTI forage oats. and I am also planting about an acre of the Anter king Fall/Winter/Spring blend which is fall rye and winter peas.
I have had a couple cameras (Moutlrie M880's) out since the last week in June so I am pretty excited to see if we have had any bucks move back into the area. I know we have lots of does running around just need the boys to show up to the party.

If you used a product like Arrest it takes 48 hrs to stop growth and 20-30 days to see the full results. I would at least wait a week before you mow.

I had heard we got 4-5 inches down at our place. I bet our creek was a raging rapid! it amazes me every time we get an inch or two of rain our lazy creek turns into this raging monster.
Heading down to our place in two weeks to turn some ground to get started on prepping some food plots for this fall. Looking to plant a mix of rye grass and winter peas in the large plot and forage oats in the two smaller plots.
I am also happy to report that we are seeing tons of deer again. During the late winter and spring it seemed like all of the deer had moved off of our place but now they are back and I can't wait to go pull the cards on the two cameras I have out.

I was looking at the forcast for this week and I would hope that we will get some rain this week. It has seemed like Ohio Co. has been under a dome thats for sure.

Well I got down to our place this past weekend. Looks like the WTI Chicory plus is doing ok. The clover is starting to come up real nice but the chicory isn't really doing much so I figure it will either come up later in the year or be a bust either way I am not to upset because the clover is doing so well.
The issue I am having is I have checked a few of the mineral sites I have been trying to establish and I am not hardly seeing any activity. I am gonna give it a couple more weeks and then I may consider trying a couple different spots.
Other then that everthing is looking good. I put out a couple cameras to see what I have running around.

I hit one last year while mowing and I was just sick over the whole thing. We usually try not to mow any of out pastures or grassy fields from the first week of May until late June. Usually by then the fawns are up and moving a little more.
I got our clover plot extended this weekend and when I went to work the ground for the second plot my tiller broke. I called Zimmer and it looks like the slip clutch went out in it. Luckily I am still under warranty so I will need to get that fixed soon. May have to hold off on adding some food plots until late Aug. I tell ya sometimes its hard to get this stuff done when you have 100 other things going on. Life keeps getting in the way!

yeah I have a few guys here in IL that have some fields by us. Best place to go watch deer on a summer night.
I will be finishing up my plots this weekend. Might get a little hinge cutting done as well. Weather forecast looks pretty dang awesome so I may have to sit back and have a few cold ones after I get my to do list done.

We have been extremely dry here in southeastern indiana. We had little over 1.5 rain last couple days and I was out this morning bushhoging. Ground is really soaking it up. Unless we get some more rain next day or 2 I will be planting sweet corn sunday. Well thats good to know! When I check the weather it always seems to have rain in it for that area. I just didn't want to use our brand new shiny tiller in wet soil. I was hoping for somewhat dry conditions for its maiden run. heres hoping I can get a good chunk done this weekend then!

Well with work obligations and the rain I have not had a chance to get down to our place and plant yet. With the wet weather we are having this week it is looking like memorial day weekend will be when I get the power plant in the ground. I hope the farmer down the road has had better luck. I would love it if he had about 2 weeks head start on me so it might help give my plot a chance because alot of the deer will be hitting his place.
I will be down this weekend so maybe I can at least get some stuff done but it all depends on how moist the soil is.

Well I just ordered my Whitetail institute power plant for the new plot and also Chicory plus to expand our clover plot. Now I just need life to stop getting in the way of my food plot plans. Between traveling for work, Family events, and being sick earlier this spring its hard to find the time to get down to the property and get stuff done.
Luckily I mowed the pasture early this spring and one of the guys who hunts our place was able to get there two weeks ago and spray everything that needed it. Now hopefully it will stay dry enough so in 2 weeks I can fire up the new tiller for the first time and get some stuff planted.
I know our deer density is pretty high where we are at and I am only planting 1.5 acres of the power plant but I kinda just wanted to see what would happen. Maybe I will get lucky and the farmer about 1 1/2 miles down the road will get his fields planted and it won't be so bad! LOL
I will post some pics of the planting when I get done
