Have people been noticing the explosion in rabbit numbers this year? YES!! Major one IMO. I'm in the process of TRYING to find places to let me rabbit hunt and found a couple but if there is deer hunters in the property the owner will always refuse permission...so far. The places I'm seeing rabbits I have noticed do NOT have the traditional heavier brushy areas or wide fence rows of years past but I am seeing groups (families I assume) of them along any boundary with even foot tall grass. I am actually really looking forward to rabbit season and embarrassingly, it is the first time in decades I've felt this way and feel the same for waterfowl and doves. Squirrel too but not as much as the traditional shotgun game. I'll still deer hunt, of course, but not NEAR the hundreds of hours of years past. I've been looking at wild game recipes for small game and have a folder saved in my favorites where I save some I haven't had before but look good and easy enough for some old guy to stir up. I'm printing out a "Permission Wanted to Hunt Small Game" flyer to hang at our local grain elevator, bank and gas station and even only finding 2 or 3 new places where I can hunt and not bother deer hunts will be a blessing. While looking for something local I have hopes of a couple days hunting Winamac and Jasper Pulaski game areas for rabbits and maybe even a lucky "left over" pheasant. Going by what I have been seeing locally I am expecting a couple days "limiting out" on our furry little garden eaters though! There sure seems to be a ton of them around! God Bless

Still about the same here, very minimal; but we don't have the best cover around here for them either.

Habitat is the key. No habitat, no rabbits. I put out new salt sticks yesterday, and 3 hours later, one had parked itself next to it, licking and biting it to get the much needed salt.

I've counted up to 5 at one time in my yard in the evenings. We are covered up in them.

I also had 5 in my yard the other day and have seen more this summer than I can personally remember. Not sure what's going on but I like it. I see that and then I have 3 wild turkey hens who between them all only have 8 poults left. We'll see who makes it!

Steve:
When are you wanting to run/hunt them? If that is your zip behind your nick on here, I am in other end of the state and depending on the weekend, I can probably work it out for you. Also, given the distance of travel, have a place for you to bunk, cook, shower, etc. Send me a note if you want further info.

I do not see more total rabbit, I see more making it to adult age this year than in the past 5 or so.. I suspect the hard winter changed the predator situation..
