I'll be leaving work in 10 minutes and going to my backyard stand. I should be in stand around 4:15pm.

Ton’s of action again. Lots of chasing. Saw 2 different shooters. Almost got a big 10 but the doe veered off to the neighbors.

I blew a grunt series and had 2 does come to my left at about 80 yards through some brush with about 20 minutes of light left. One was a yearling that seemed more interested. They hung out for a few minutes and then went their separate ways.

So close to releasing on a nice 10. I watched him come across the field and into the woods but couldn’t get him to stop in a shooting lane!! Dang it…

I got skunked again today sitting till 1 pm trying to get my reduction zone buck. Two days in a row and I haven't seen a deer so I'm going back to work tomorrow. My reduction zone spot doesn't have many does around and I'm thinking the bucks may be off hanging with them somewhere else. I'll hit my non reduction zone spot Saturday morning for doe patrol.

Driving home tonight with my deer made me think that sometimes as hunters we maybe overthink things. I have hunted public land for 11 years. The old saying is on public get deep if you want to see big deer. For nine years I have walked by this particular area to go deeper into the woods. I finally tried that closer spot after deciding how hard it was to drag a big deer out as far back as I was and I hunt alone. By second sit last year I shot my biggest buck ever. In 5 sits this season I lost a big 8 and killed the 10 today. So In 7 morning sits I killed my 2 biggest bucks and lost another that would have been in my top 2. Makes me wonder how many big bucks I have lost a chance at by not trying that spot earlier.
