Well took the daughters boyfriend this morning, and really liked our set up. However, only saw 3 deer, 2 were bucks, 1 was decent. Nothing got closer than 50 yards. He did a great job of walking in, paying attention and sitting still though. Little disappointed for him, but that’s hunting. Will try the evening in a different spot. May have 2 crossbows going this evening.

Was out this morning for the first morning sit of the year. Ended up seeing 3 bucks and about 10 doe. All 3 were on the same trail and 2 were chasing does. First buck that came through was the biggest. Borderline shooter 8 point. I passed for now as i have a few bigger bucks im after. 2nd buck was a small 8 and the 3rd one was a spike.

Well Hovey Lake came through for my wife's uncle this morning. Not a giant but it's his 1st ever bow kill that he's been able to recover Do not apologize about the size of the buck. That is a great deer and an great first accomplishment with a bow. I am proud of any deer I kill weather it has big horns little horns or no horns. If you say something derogatory about MY deer, ie-- it's only a 4 point, needed a nother year, it was just a yearling, I am going to take that as an insult and you are going to have one ticked off old man to deal with. Kill what you want. Be proud! And be happy. Sorry about the rant. Tell him congratulations and I myself would be proud to have killed that deer

Early on, had 3 different bucks come in. Two 6's and a forkhorn. Just cruising, have yet to see any chasing or hear grunts. Nothing from around 945 til I came down at noon. Still a pretty exciting morning.
Heading to Martinsville this evening to watch our gals play for the Vball semi state. We're off to Tell City for football this coming Friday.

Live from the stand " kind of" I am not good with mornings and did not make it out this morning even tho I am in hunt camp. I did have a couple stands that needed some minor fixing so I headed out on the atv. I poke along on it and noticed a doe about 50 yrds off the trail just standing and watching. Never spooked. I just kept rolling and glancing. This was about 11. After that stand repair I came back to camp to get stuff for second repair and as I am putting along I noticed a buck standing in the woods watching. He was a good 6 or a smallish 8, couldn't tell. I kept putting along and went around corner of the woods and he had had enough and slow bound back in the thick stuff. That was 12:30ish. After that stand repair I placed trail cameras and headed for camp. On the way I found another dead doe. 3rd one here this year I know of. All are probably EHD deaths. All close to the creek. THAT is discouraging. With the low population here it hurts my chance of putting meat in the freezer There is also a big doe in the sideditch at the front of the farm some one clobbered with thier car. I will hunt anyway and enjoy the sits, deer or no deer

Sat this morning in our ridge stand and while it was slow at the beginning I did get a little action. Got in right at shooting light and not long after the birds and squirrels started their daily business - they were noisy until around 9:45. The wind wasn't right for that stand today - got busted by who knows what deer standing somewhere near the walnut plantation at the bottom of the slope. About 9:45 a doe shows up 90 yards out in front of me and beds on the property line - a while later she gets up and I see 2 other deer in the thicket on the other property. Ended being a nice 8-10 pt with another doe. Buck was a nice one - at least the size of what I shot last year. He rubbed a tall sapling that I could see swaying back and forth, then the does wandered my way and ended up between 85 and 65 yards out. Buck followed them. I think he made a scrape at one point - couldn't see well. He proceeded to rub a tree about 85 yards out. Bigger doe came a bit close but went down the slope into the ravine - Buck started following her but then turned tail and jogged away in a slightly different direction - not sure if he was setting up to chase her or had come across another doe's trail or what. If he had come any closer than 60 yards I would have done him in - Crossbow is dialed to shoot as far as 60 yards. The smaller doe came in to about 50 yards and I almost shot but she totally ignored me and laid down - right behind a fallen tree. With the wind shifting I don't know how she didn't take off until about 45 minutes later. Things were quiet for a while until a 4 pt half rack with an apparently broken-off antler came past from the other direction at around 30 yards and headed right for the ravine. He picked up the scent of the does and followed the trail of the one that had bedded down but had no interest in her - I guess she wasn't hot. He left over the side of the slope and the doe followed him about 15 minutes later. Sunny, nice morning - freezing cold at first then by lunchtime it was a pleasant temperature even though hardly anything was moving. Half rack would have been a little smaller than the first buck if he had his other side too.

Between 5 1/2 hours of work Thursday due to Halloween, hunting and a therapy appointment yesterday, and hunting today, I'm beat. Hardly even want to start doing the mental work of homework.....

In a different ladder a couple hundred yards north of where I was this morning. Not very hopeful with the limited visibility. Lol!

These guys have several cameras out and they're just mad because they aren't seeing any deer lol

Back home in Minnesota, rifle starts next weekend. Had a great time while in Indiana, I got to sit almost full days every day while there. I feel privileged to be able to come home and hunt. Also for being allowed to be on this forum and you all keeping me updated on how the hunting is in what I consider my home state. Here is a picture of my cousins deer he took last night.

Back in the stand. I don't use cover scents, I always hunt the wind. That being said,if I was truly "hunting the wind", I would have already changed stands 23 times in the last 45 minutes,LOL!
