Seems the deer are avoiding me today but interestingly enough I’ve got another piebald squirrel on my property. Guess I’d better bring my .22 out next time.

Sat until 9:30 cst. Pretty much dead after 8:30 or so. Got down and did some scouting. Found some big, fresh rubs and almost closed a stalk on a bedded coyote. Got within 40 yards, but he either saw me or heard me and bolted. He was bedded where bucks usually bed and there were no deer bedded near him.

The fork horn that my weiner dog couldn't scare out of the yard. Was that guy alive or dead when the picture was taken?

My first sit of the year as well. All quiet here. Still a bit windy but not terrible. Good luck every one that didn't take long. Shortly after I posted this morning I seen a big doe walking the edge of the woods. I thought to myself why don't you walk in here and let me harvest you. Not 5 seconds later she jumped into the woods and headed my way. I shot her at 20 yards while she was eating maple leaves.

Had a pair of bald eagles fly in and land in a sycamore tree about 40 yds away. They were talking back and forth to each other. Amazing birds!

Got out a little late and had to set up the blind (noisy), but didn't have to take an extra trip to the car (thankfully). Saw 2 other vehicles on the property in the area I was hunting, both of them there before me and both hunters. I rattled my wrists sore today.... Around 9 a yearling 3 point with a spike on one side and 2 points on the other came in to about 25 yards feeding and coming from where I had parked my vehicle. Think the rattling sequence I had literally just finished might have brought him in. He fed for a bit while a nervous button buck came down the slope and started feeding in front of me about 40 yards away. Opted not to shoot the button even though he's technically legal on the place I was at. No bucks unless they have at least 8 points and the antler inside spread is at or past the ears no matter how tall or massive the antlers are. Not sure if they are still doing the management buck thing. 3 pt bullied the button a bit then they both fed off to my side together - button must have busted another hunter before he showed up at my blind because he was definitely not cool with the blind sitting there. The 3 pt gave me a few looks but didn't really care. The button was stomping in between bites of brush. Our blind stinks of sheep and goat from using it to shoot House Sparrows in the pastures - that at least helped cover my scent. The 2 deer went over the slope behind me and stayed there for a bit. At one point I looked out and the button's nose was working hard. Waited a few minutes and started the rattling again. No more deer came my way but I found out my parents had driven up to the field I had parked near and seen deer around 11:00. The squirrels were busy most of the morning. Unfortunately the black phase greys that are there never come close enough to let me get a really good look at their features. They were fun to watch though. A chipmunk also made for some entertainment all morning as well. The bird activity didn't start picking up until after 11 and by that time I needed to leave. No hunting tonight due to an appointment in town - another hunter who is here for a few days will be hunting there.

Good action in southern Jackson County as well. 3 does before 9, then a big, wide 10 (150-160) eased by just off the top of the hill I'm on. Lots of briars and saplings so I wasn't comfortable with a shot, hung around 15 minutes or so rubbing on trees, etc. While watching him, 2 yearlings and mom came in, he showed no interest. Few minutes later another doe comes in bleating like crazy...still no interest in her. Saw 3 more does before having to get out of the tree. Definitely provides lots of incentive. Able to set all day tomorrow.

Someone help me out here with an answer. It's been to long since I have taken a deer I guess. Looking to buy extra archery license and do not see an option. Am I picking archery license again? It used to say extra archery didn't it?

First sit of the season in this stand. Been holding out. Had a 2.5 year old on camera at 11:35 this morning. Hoping this will be an eventful evening. Good luck to everyone in the woods today.

All set. Edge of a recently picked cornfield. Farmer has more to go so hopefully it’s not right next to me. Maybe chase them to me 😁
