Day two highlights... These are all post spawn fish. Every one was full of minnows. I got this one. It was my last one to finish out. It is 15", and 1lb 9oz. Luke was trying to talk me into mounting it, but I just couldnt do it. I said we will just have to try catching a bigger one.

Went back today out of Michigan City. Weather and waves so much better. Wife went with us since calm seas. The fishing did not disappoint! It was on fire, we kept our limit of 45, and threw back a bunch getting there. Caught a couple goliaths, and a bunch of 10-11", and thick. We all had the time of our lives. Pics later. Heading to a b-day party now, so we iced them and will be back later to clean them. Man...tempting to pull my boat up there for some perch. You cant get much better than it is right now. The size of these has gone up so much from years past. I remember keeping 7-8" fish and happy. This past weekend, we were throwing those back left and right.

Those ones I brought back from Colorado spawned in the pond this Spring, time will tell if they get to the 19" they supposed are to grow to.

In an effort to get Abbie to go more... I will say, it makes a huge difference sitting there in the yard. We are probably going to try them out late afternoon and transition into catfishing this evening. Full cost each setup: $115+ tax Millennium seat umbrella holder $50, Rural King 9' aluminum patio umbrella $30, 1/8" wall aluminum tube to fit inside Millennium holder $35 from Amazon. I used Cabela's points and got the two Millennium umbrella holders for free, so I only have $140 in both setups.

Weekend weather not looking good percentage wise. Saturday looks best, unfortunately I/we have previous plans until later afternoon. Maybe take a ride to St Joe pier. Was hoping we could try again for perch on Sunday, but the weather sounds iffy so far.

Got all the stuff ready for a perch trip on Lake Michigan this weekend. Had to read up on all the regulations for the Great Lakes boating requirements. My dad always handled that in the past. Needed updated fire extinguisher, flares, air horn, ropes, fix the navigation lights, etc. A lot of that had expired since we have only fished inland lakes last so many years. We cleaned out the storage compartment where we kept tools, extras, etc. My dad had about 10 drain plugs, 20 some spools of lines, about 10 ropes, and a bunch of accumulated junk. Lol. We cleaned it up, cleaned it out, condensed, and modernized some things. I removed two fish finders we didnt use anymore. Really cleaned up on the clutter. Ready to rock and roll. Since you removed a few fish finders, you need to upgrade to one of the new live scopes. That should help improve the fish finding ability of the boat. I had a Live Scope on my old jon boat. I watched YouTube videos one after the other. I can honestly admit that I never did gain a freaking clue how to properly use it. None, nothing! I tried to convince myself that I knew what was going on with it, but I was just lying to myself. A good portion of the issue was that I was not willing to waste valuable fishing time on trying to figure out a gizmo. My unsolicited advice: Don't buy one unless you have a buddy that already does, is proficient, and is willing to go out on the lake and conduct a training session or two. I sold the boat to the son of a tournament fisherman who has had one since they came out. I've known the father for years through work and he said the boy is bringing home more pan fish than ever, thanks to the Live Scope.

I know 3 guys who bought one and paid a guy to set it up and teach them. I talked to the guy and he charges $150 for the service! He also guides for bass and crappie

Was hoping we could try again for perch on Sunday, but the weather sounds iffy so far. We were on the big lake this morning. The radar showed a storm fizzling out before it got to us. The skies continued to darken, so I called it. We put the boat back on the trailer. Got in the truck, and boom it hit. Didnt look long lived, so we went and ate breakfast, and walked around a store to kill time. Watched the radar, launched again, and some post storm wrap around wind of 30mph hit when we got out there. Splashed our way back, tried to fish in the harbor a little, but admitted defeat. Wife caught the one and only perch! I hit the bilge pump and pulled the drain plug. Yikes! Couldnt believe how much water we took on. Gas in the truck, gas in the boat, minnows, boat launch fee, and breakfast, $140. So, we need a do-over for this trip! 🙄

Weather looking primo for the weekend. Forecast showing wind at most 5mph both days. We will be on the big lake again trying to nab some more perch.
I got two big rods ready too. Dug out some dipsey divers and our trolling box, so we "might" make a pass or two for silver fish. Seen plenty of reports of fish in close, and seen a few coolers at the launch in boats our size, so maybe we will get lucky. Definately gonna try a few trips around the ports when the fall salmon run starts too.
