Managed 12 nice ones and a 7"er today at Glendale. Completely different lake than last year, weeds everywhere! Looked like the retirees have picked over the beds pretty bad. About all the beds I found were empty. One of my normal backup spots is unfishable due to the massive amount of weeds. Used crickets for a while and then worms and back and forth. Seemed pretty picky. Glad I brought both!

Another good weekend of putting fillets in the freezer.
Had nothing to do Friday evening so I decided to try the pond in my neighborhood. This pond was completely rebuilt about six years ago. I worked for the developer at the time and he gave me a budget to stock it. I put in bass, regular and hybrid bluegill, red ear, and five grass carp. It is now owned by two families as part of their home lots. I am in good stranding with both owners and they let me fish it. I don't go often, but it's great when I do. I kept ten legitimate keeper bluegill and had something very large hooked that go away. It was either a grass carp or bass.
Our oldest daughter went with me Saturday morning. We went to my favorite crappie hole and managed twelve before the wind got unbearable. The pond is in the middle of an ag field, so there is no wind break at all. We headed home and went to the neighborhood pond. It's bordered by woods a good 75% and is not affected by the wind much. We caught 15 nice slabs in less than an hour. Home and cleaning fish before noon.

Wife wanted to get on the lake today so we are sitting here in a little cove on Monroe dunking some nightcrawlers and just enjoying this beautiful day. An eagle just flew right over us too, which is always cool to see.

We ended up with a drum, channel cat, one crappie, and two bluegill. Everything went back in the lake this time. Really made it known that I have to get a trolling motor before our next trip. This baiting lines stuff all the time is actual work. Trolling is much more relaxing to me.

I like the controls on a fob too. I never cared for the foot pedals.

I like the controls on a fob too. I never cared for the foot pedals. Me too. With the old cable controlled foot pedal on older trolling motors you could "feel" where the troller was pointed. New ones all rotate via electricity and you can no longer feel, so I find myself looking at the troller head all the time to see where it's pointed.

Weatherman convinced me to trade my Friday off for today again this week. Used the leftover crickets and red worms from last weekend. Caught a few on bobber setup, but most were deadline on bottom. Went to the city park lake, and there were hardly any weeds at all. The beds were picked over pretty hard. Still had a fun time and caught several bass (released due to 14" length requirement) along with what I kept. 19 in all, 6 warmouth, 2 redear, and the rest were bluegills. Biggest keeper was tied at 9 1/2" for one of the redear and one bluegill. Most were between 8 and 9" with the stubby warmouth bringing up the rear.

I had a few crickets and red worms left over from last weekend, so I decided to hit the neighbors" pond at day light Saturday. The big male bluegill were active and hammering the crickets. I ran out of crickets and started using worms. Only small bluegill were interested, no keepers. I then waded through the weeds and tried a different spot. Red ear were taking the worms almost instantly until I ran out of bait. I put 14 nice ones on ice and cleaned them before dinner.
This pond is owned by two neighbors. The one has maintained some of his shore line, the other none. A good portion has been taken over by volunteer trees, blackberries, etc. to the point where an excavator with a brush cutter will be needed to clean it up. I had access to such equipment and offered it and labor at no cost. "We have somebody lined up" was the response I received. Too late now!

Fished southern IL again Thursday & Friday. Hardly got started on Rend lake before a big storm blew up and ran us off.
Was off to a good start on Lake Egypt Friday then got slammed again by another big storm and ran off. Got our butts soaked and even hailed on on the boat ride in. Managed 36 big crappie before quitting.

Looking good guys! When I have time I'll get pics up. I had out of town visitors for the last 9 days. I took one guy fishing in a few ponds, he pulled a 8.3# Hybrid Striped Bass out of my pond, a 16", 2.55# hybrid crappie out of another pond and we both caught a mess of regular and hybrid bluegills, the biggest being an 11" 1.8#'er.
