No doubt that he will catch all kinds of flack from a lot of people..
His plan seems to be to try and defuse that as much as possible by selling yearly permits to hunt/fish some of the area..
His money is not being made in the archery/gun shop. That has to be almost a hobby for him.
Just keeping people run off the property for awhile will be a full time chore..
It should be an interesting next few years...
Stay tuned...

What kind of reprocutions (sp?) do you think that guy who leased it all will go through now? I personally havent been to his shop but 2 times since he took it over and once was just to check in a turkey. I doubt I give him any more of my business unless Im in a bind but thats not just because of the ground issue. He has also bought up a large section of land that I think was mentioned earlier in this post that I grew up stompin around in. All thats left up there now is from Eby to Crowville & Shelton to Kelly and that is selling off pretty quik. Once thats gone I will have lost every bit of gound I grew up hunting and fishing. But anyways.... Do you think people will take their business elsewhere knowing that this guy took their hunting/fishing ground from them? So, all this property that you lost, did you have premission to hunt on it from the owner?

This Peabody thing will displace a great many Hunters that hunt in Warrick Co. I hope some sort of agreement can be reached.

maybe its jealousy or just being childish, i dont know. im just sick of a few lucky people with more money than they know what to do with buying up everything they can get their hands on to make money by selling hunts on it or subdividing it and developing it

According to the people that work for him, as of early last week, the ground has not been leased yet. None of it.

KY is light years ahead of us on the land reclamation project issue. We are Ky was caught pretty much by surprise last year when Peabody began unloading some of its ground( Gilbraltar, parts of Hopwell, & the Vogue tract being surfaced mined by Charlaie(sp). Vogue tract may well be out of the picture next spring. Ky's FDFWR Commish has delegated a committee to come up with proposals to open up private ground but nothin has been recommended yet. Folks, this is a sign of the times. Nobody likes it, but it's just a fact. States R strapped for money & buying hunting ground is way down thier list of priorties! States simply can't compete with private cash for ground due to simply not having the money or prevented by state laws to pay above appraisal.

I've been told that this will NOT happen this year...
Just scuttlebutt, but I think pretty accurate.

I feel sorry for you guys. I know what it's like to lose hunting ground. Good luck.

The latest.
Will definitely not happen this year and by the hem-hawing of the person I spoke to this is probably dead on arrival FOREVER.

Sound like an extremely good time for the DNR to step in and do what needs to be done!

Sound like an extremely good time for the DNR to step in and do what needs to be done! I don't think they have the money and if they did they probably would not spend it for anything down in southwestern Indiana.

Why would you say that? South of Indy seems to be their favorite area for hunting ground purchases.
