Very nice “goat” treetop!
I agree on what you posted. Here lately I’ve been waiting until the last week of October to even start hunting. If they had a September 1 season I’d probably go a few times for the novelty of it..

Why don't we have a FAWN season while were creating new seasons. We start hunting them in September all the way till February isn't that enough?

Would anyone be interested in a velvet season? A lot of states are starting to throw one into the mix, and personally I think it would be cool. (One buck only that counts for rest of the year, no does) No

No reason the youth can't hunt the early season also. And there's no reason why adult hunters can't wait until after the youth season to hunt. It's one weekend before the archery season opens. I see no reason not to let the kids out there first. I don't see any reason everyone can't start on the same day. Get some real world experience, just like the real world.

You walked to school 5 miles, uphill in the snow both ways, and as such you figure kids today are too soft? IMO, if giving them a weekend before the season opens gets/keeps them interested in deer hunting, I have zero issues with it. As I said before, the grown ups should be grown up about it and not mind waiting one weekend.

An extra month of hunting opportunity, in September temperatures, on summer-pattern deer might help keep interest also. I know my kids would rather sweat than freeze.

If people really wanted to open up September to keep the kids interested in hunting, I would likely have said nothing. But in reality, many of the grown ups want September opened to kill a velvet deer on Summer patterns. Hopefully the DNR doesn't go along with it and leaves things as they are.

I doubt that the IDNR is even considering it..
I’ve always wanted the kids to have a weekend in late October or early November instead of the weekend before October 1.
Cooler more pleasant temperatures. Less biting bugs , less leaves in the trees/bushes and more active patternable deer.

Me, me, me mentality. Lifelong bowhunter, hardly hunt with anything else. But many are just all about themselves, wanting longer seasons and more opportunties for themselves, and at sametime limiting others who hunt with other weapons. Can't make it up. Lol

Woody, ditto on the private ground or public access to private ground. We didn't have to sit in the heat. I went out there and my cousin took me around. We just drove around in the truck, glassed and decided which one was suitable. I got out of the truck, walked about 20 feet, spread out the shooting mat (no way was I laying on the ground with all the sharp things out there), adjusted the .257 Weatherby and squeezed the trigger. If we were within 300 yds the antelope were skittish, if they were over 300 yds, they didn't care what we did. Yeah, I know. That's not "hunting" but we were pressed for time after spending a week in the Greys River area chasing after Mule Deer and I didn't want to eat a tag. 2 years later I went back to see if I could get a bigger one and we drove and glassed for 3 days. Nope, ground shrinkage and it's a wee bit smaller than the first one. Now I have enough points that I could pick any area and go. Just gotta wait for a good year forage wise out there and then go. I'll get a doe tag too so I can bring back enough meat to make the trip palatable $$ wise. You're antelope hunting experience kind of duplicates mine. I've killed a half dozen antelope bucks but never have gotten one mounted. Just didn't feel the hunting was very sporting to justify displaying a trophy. Jump out of the truck, get a good rest and whack em. I have the first one on the wall, I'll have to get a pic of it. Let me see if I can find a pic of it from the hunt.

If one with spots passed by on Oct 1, I'd get the whole hide tanned and put it over a couch. If that offends someone; too bad. If they are that offended about shooting one with spots (even though it's legal), then they can put up the $$ so I can go on an Axis deer hunt if they feel that strongly about me NOT shooting one with spots. If they can't put their $$ where their mouth is, then I don't want to hear it.

I've always thought it was silly that we needed a special weekend for kids only. Just take them opening day, it's the same experience for the kid and everyone else gets to hunt with them.
I really doubt the special kid season does anything to improve hunter recruitment or increase hunter numbers.

I am sure it improves the illegal things that go on, I have seen numerous pictures of kids 4 to 6 years old posing with big deer that they "supposedly" shot. I wasn't allowed to deer hunt until I was 12, so I have a hard time believing these kids shot the deer and good ole dad pulled the trigger instead. That is another thing wrong with this country, we try to accomodate everyone and don't make them work for anything.

Ya and the wife always kills a big buck also every year even though she doesn’t own any camouflage gun or bow she’s just that good. Ain’t going to change as far as the kids I don’t care either way hopefully it does more good and gets them involved but I’m also to the point I’d rather see a kid catch the fish take the deer bunny than me. Still a few things on my bucket list but realistically probably ain’t going to happen but boy the second I hit the power ball look out lead is flying
