Would anyone be interested in a velvet season? A lot of states are starting to throw one into the mix, and personally I think it would be cool. (One buck only that counts for rest of the year, no does)

That's a hard one for me. On one hand it would be nice to start hunting a little earlier here but on the other hand there's opportunities in other states to get one. Didn't we used to have a week between gun and muzzleloader where it was archery only? Maybe put that back and add a week for the velvet season.

I would be all on board for a 9/1, or even 8/15 opener. Not necessarily a special season, just open it up sooner.
Go ahead and make it resident only if increased NR pressure is a concern.

Velvet bucks are cool, but I have ZERO interest in deer hunting in dog-day heat.

Many states have the ML season prior to the gun season..... Maybe just move the ML season so that it starts before Archery and that once it ends, then Archery starts Oct 1? THAT'd pee off the archery crowd!!

I’ve been saying it for years. Bring on 9/1 archery season.

Didn't we used to have a week between gun and muzzleloader where it was archery only? No, what we used to have was a week of no deer hunting between firearms and muzzleloader seasons. What we have now is what you stated (archery only that week.)

I’ve been saying it for years. Bring on 9/1 archery season. So when would the youth weekend be?

I would be opposed to hunting deer in velvet. We already have three full months that we are harassing these critters. Give them a break while they are trying to fatten up for the rut.
Velvet on the antlers is Natures way of telling you it isn't hunting season yet.

How many states have a velvet season? Would velvet only deer be allowed? I think there are about a dozen, and my suggestion would be the way TN does it... One buck only.

So that would mean that hunters would be in the woods before the youth weekend? Correct I think there would be a substantial group of hunters who might not be happy with that...

I think there would be a substantial group of hunters who might now be happy with that... You're right, but a lot of states don't have a separate youth season. I don't think one weekend that's archery and bucks only would screw anything up.

I don't think one weekend that's archery and bucks only would screw anything up. I don't see the DNR going that route as that weekend gives the youth first crack @ the deer. And while some grouse about it, I think the majority of deer hunters support it.

I have zero desire to go sit with the ticks and mosquitoes. To all that want to go after them I say go for it, I'll be hunting doves if they are in the fields I hunt.
