That's a "NO" for me, for a whole bunch of reasons. Ironic that have been reading posts about shortening firearms season all over social media, and now someone wanting to lengthen archery....LOL. End day never going to make everyone happy. I am 100% supportive of our IDNR and current season lengths and structures. "If it ain't broke , don't fix it" comes to mind. Carry on.

I’d take a few days of muzzleloader in or before bow season. I bet more than a few bow hunters would pick up a smoke pole during that time. Not everyone archery hunts.

You're right, but a lot of states don't have a separate youth season. I don't think one weekend that's archery and bucks only would screw anything up. I don't see the DNR going that route as that weekend gives the youth first crack @ the deer. And while some grouse about it, I think the majority of deer hunters support it. No reason the youth can't hunt the early season also.

No reason the youth can't hunt the early season also. And there's no reason why adult hunters can't wait until after the youth season to hunt. It's one weekend before the archery season opens. I see no reason not to let the kids out there first.

I am not even remotely interested in a velvet season let alone opening the season any earlier. Geeze might as well open the season in late May or June when the does are having fawns. I bet those fawns would be mighty tender during that time of year. That is the problem in this day and age, everyone wants, wants and wants. Leave things alone and be happy with what we get to do now.

We went to Myrtle Beach for vacation a couple summers ago. I was pier fishing about every day and picked up a hunting and fishing rule book (I always do whatever I am out of state) their deer season opens August 15th. Deer hunting on August 15? In South Carolina? NO THANKS!

I don't care one way or the other. I doubt that I would get too excited. With Oct,1 the opener for archery, I don't get too excited until the last couple weeks in Oct. I also hate ticks and skeeters!!!!

For the record, I phrased that poorly. I’m not for starting the season September 1st, but I feel like for a weekend a special archery bow only hunt would be cool. I don’t think it’d throw anything off. Personally, I don’t see any drawbacks to it other than youth getting first crack at it. There are a lot of people who would like to get a deer in velvet. It’s not for everyone, and a lot of people in Tennessee don’t hunt it because it’s so hot. But it’s cool for a lot of people and can help scratch the itch a month out. You could even let it be an additional youth hunt. Like I said, it’s not for everyone but it’d be cool to see imo

I think there would be a substantial group of hunters who might now be happy with that... You're right, but a lot of states don't have a separate youth season. I don't think one weekend that's archery and bucks only would screw anything up. Not arguing one iota... BUT, personally I dont care about ANY other state, except Indiana.

I wish Indiana would have only one deer season and three choices of licenses: Buck, Doe, and Bundle. Then have weapon used dates. Then list what each weapon limitations per dates allowed to be used. Simply that messy current regulations.
We need to remove all the seasons, but one Deer season.

The heat was pretty warm at times, but seeing multitudes of pronghorns makes it all worthwhile. I hunted private ground and it was not a “will I get one” , but “how long do I want to wait for a good one”. I got lucky on a couple trips out there.

Woody, ditto on the private ground or public access to private ground. We didn't have to sit in the heat. I went out there and my cousin took me around. We just drove around in the truck, glassed and decided which one was suitable. I got out of the truck, walked about 20 feet, spread out the shooting mat (no way was I laying on the ground with all the sharp things out there), adjusted the .257 Weatherby and squeezed the trigger. If we were within 300 yds the antelope were skittish, if they were over 300 yds, they didn't care what we did.
Yeah, I know. That's not "hunting" but we were pressed for time after spending a week in the Greys River area chasing after Mule Deer and I didn't want to eat a tag.
2 years later I went back to see if I could get a bigger one and we drove and glassed for 3 days. Nope, ground shrinkage and it's a wee bit smaller than the first one. Now I have enough points that I could pick any area and go. Just gotta wait for a good year forage wise out there and then go. I'll get a doe tag too so I can bring back enough meat to make the trip palatable $$ wise.

I've killed a half dozen antelope bucks but never have gotten one mounted. Just didn't feel the hunting was very sporting to justify displaying a trophy. Jump out of the truck, get a good rest and whack em.

These two and another smaller one were compound bow killed on a waterhole. I think it must have been 50+ that came to the water before the closest one in the picture came in. The “silver tip” in the back was the first one to come in after I was in the blind no longer than an hour.

I’d be ok with a velvet hunt if we took days off the back side I know it’s working now our herd is in good health in most areas. But I just think it’s too long no database for that just my thinking I enjoy my time in the woods and go to the bitter cold end I use to hunt from opening day till close but a lot was on state ground now I get going around Halloween but I’m hunting my own ground and don’t want to burn it out before the hunting gets good Maybe I’m just getting older and fill sorry for deer IDK maybe I got smarter yes that’s questionable but just let me think it ok
