Little midday pounding in the marsh. Gadwalls, green wings, woodies and one mallard. Loving it!

We didn’t get to hunt this morning but managed a decent shoot this afternoon. What general area are you hunting? I have not seen anything in my area. Was up in Anderson on Thursday and saw a few ducks and geese in the normal spots but decent numbers

Little midday pounding in the marsh. Gadwalls, green wings, woodies and one mallard. Loving it! Well done! And do tell, an afternoon hunt? Jump shooting or blind sit? Don’t get me wrong, I got nothing wrong with jump shooting in the afternoon, but you guys did well.

When we have birds they will work nearly all day long. It’s pretty awesome. At one point yesterday we had about 300 mallards working us at one time. My son just can’t get enough of it already.

That’s impressive for an afternoon sit, good for you guys! I’m up north, thawed out now but no birds. Again, good job!

Newbie question, what is "jump shooting"? If you see some ducks or geese in a pond or creek or a ditch and sneak up on them and shoot when they fly

If you see some ducks or geese in a pond or creek or a ditch and sneak up on them and shoot when they fly And is that frowned upon? Sounds like good fortune to me! Lol Depends on the crowd you run with. I've jump shot plenty of ditches in my day. Some purists may think it "unsportsman like". Some folks would never hunt anything other than a decoy spread. Shooting birds on the water is another no-no in some peoples book. We call that water-swatting, and yes, guilty again. Especially with kids just learning, first light, birds will be on the water before they know what is going on. We try to stand up to get them going, but that doesn't always happen believe it or not.

I'm not too proud to water swat. If you can get them to land isn't that what you're trying to get them to attempt to do anyway? Hunting is hunting jump shoot, decoy them, water swat them, pass shoot them, or just get lucky it's all about having fun.

In most of Indiana you need to take what is given. Years....and I mean years ago we'd set rules
No hens No water swatting No jump shooting No spoonies, coots, or saw bills
Lol...that is what happens when you have time, birds and spots.
I have time but none of the rest. Game on, if it flies it dies.

Many years ago I hunted Glendale for Put and Take pheasants. I chased a rooster all over the field trying to get him to fly and then shoot him. He wouldn’t fly no matter what. Just kept running.
I finally thought to myself “Ok, if you’re going to run like a rabbit,, I’ll shoot you like a rabbit”. BOOM!
Ground “swatted” him. Tasted just the same as a pheasant I shot flying. 😉

And the funny thing is, a water swatted, or jump shot bird tastes just the same as one decoyed. Like anything else, hunt by the posted rules, but after that hunt how you like.

Yeah I don’t think folks shoot game in the Air because they taste better…. Same with decoy hunting!
As stated just hunt within the rules…,
