When you go through all the trouble I don't mind a pass shoot I'm there to kill something. They don't always decoy. Same with turkeys I'm not afraid to ambush an old bird that keeps thumbing his waddle at me. I agree…. But I will never shoot one on the roost just to kill.

Idk where you came up with that.

In my opinion wild turkeys are to precious and to few to be trying to knock one down while it's flying. I am old school when it comes to hunting these because I enjoy using decoy(s) and calls to fool these birds into a deadly gun range. How many times each season do we read of the misses. Why?

Roosted turkey sounds too much like roasted turkey for me to pass. If in season, inside of hunting hours and in range....calls and decoys are overrated. I am worlds worst turkey hunter and will pass up a hunt to go crappie fishing so your roosted birds are safe.
I also have no issue killing a Jake. I hear guys complain about gobbling jakes coming into range when they thought it was a mature Tom. If the fun is a gobbling bird and getting them into the decoys....why do weird chest hairs matter? You turkey hunter are weird.

The best morning so far this season and my gun was malfunctioning. Ended up firing one shot and killed one green head. Should have been limited out but my gun would not fire. After a thorough cleaning it’s functioning again.

Geese. Wish I could find a recipe that is edible. Jerky is the only way I can find to eat them.

Put the goose breasts in a crockpot with cream of mushroom soup some onions couple of cloves of garlic maybe some water so it do t dry out. Tastes exactly like venison roasts in a crockpot.

Back in the golden years hunting with Span870's old man....I had more goose meat than I knew what to do with.
Made pepperoni rolls that were great and canned 7 quarts. That is the best.
Now I "hunt" with Span870 and we talk about weird chest hairs on turkeys

Geese. Wish I could find a recipe that is edible. Jerky is the only way I can find to eat them. Get an oven roasting bag. Place whole goose in bag in a 225 oven for 1 1/2 hrs. While baking mix 1 can frozen orange juice 1 tablespoon orange marmalade or plumb Jolley 1 packet of brown gravy mix and 1 cup water. After goose is removed from oven open bag and dump all liquid out of bag and discard. That will be grease that cooked out of goose. Pour mixture in bag with the goose and cook for 1 and 1/2 hrs. Do not over cook. Meat should be tender and jucy. Remove goose from bag. Place goose on plate to be carved to your likeing.Pore gravy in a dish and serve with mashed potatoes. I skin my geese as 95 % of the fat is in the skin and with the roasting bag the goose does not dry out and get tough. Try it I think you will like it. I also slow cook the legs and thys in a crackpot with potatoes carrots onions and a stock of celery. Salt and pepper to taste. Can mix and add a bag of brown gravey if you like. Can be served like stewed chicken or as a roast I have also slow cooked legs and thys in mushroom soup but I like the roast method better my self

Geese. Wish I could find a recipe that is edible. Jerky is the only way I can find to eat them. Cut the breast meat into 1 inch thick steaks. Soak the meat in ginger ale for 4 hours. Season and grill. Ginger ale removes the gamey taste.

I'm headed out tomorrow for the last weekend for the Central Zone. Not sure yet if I'll hit up the public draw or just head to my private spot.

Great way to end the season with my son. His first goose and I let him do all the calling. Brought em in feet down in the spread.
