Fall plots sprayed couple weeks ago and tilled yday. Plan on putting down some fertilizer and lime this week and seeding hopefully by next weekend.(Just depends on rain forecast). Anxious to try a new mix of winter peas, kale and turnips. Also be seeding some buckwheat, crimson clover , turnip and radishes.

Went cruising last night and saw a few nice bucks out in the fields. Nothing real close to me, but still fun to see.

I got off work early this afternoon. Hung a new ladder stand, then dug/sunk two plastic tubs in the ground for small water holes (still need to fill them). Pulled cards on a few cams, had a pretty nice 8 point with some extra nontypical points, as well as a couple smaller bucks and the usual does/fawns.
After supper I went spotting from the car, saw about 30, with one being a real whopper.

I purposely try to avoid the deer hunting channel this far ahead of gun season because I will start getting the itch but thanks for throwing all that to the way side. Only 3 months to go, I really need to start looking into bow or x-bow, then my wife would definitely kill me. Any help with this fella's would be greatly appreciated.
WANTED: A wife who doesn't care how often I go hunting.

Went out yesterday afternoon to do some scouting and hang a cmera on one of the public pieces I hunt. Wanted to check a spot out that I found last year but never got to hunt. It's a finger of woods that shoots off a big section of woods out into swamp. The finger is about 60' wide and goes out into the swamp about 1/3 mile and then connects to another piece of woods. Trails everywehre on it. Anyway, had to wear waders to get through a little gulley with about 3 feet of water then it opens up to an oak flat about 100' feet long and 50' wide. I keep walking past the oak section and it starts to get thicker. That's when I hear some footsteps in the water. I keep still for about 3 minutes and a BIG buck comes down the trail and around some brush and we are face to face at 12 feet. It was awesome.

That's awesome sculver, nothing gets the heart racing any more than that. Sounds like you've found yourself a really good spot to sit and wait, much like you already did.

I've been pretty busy this week. Cut shooting lanes around 4 tree stand sets and filled my new water holes.
I have cameras on the water holes, I'm excited to see how the deer utilize them.

Dog days of summer. Starting to need rain really bad. Fall planting on hold till we get a decent rain and additional rain in forecast. Not panicking yet but need to see some H20 soon.

Definitely not the case in Clay county. Yesterday was the first time in weeks I haven't had mud on the tires mowing the yard.

Knox county is starting to get a little parched, nothing severe yet but couldn't hurt to get a sprinkle or 2.

There have been more bucks hanging around my house as the summer has worn on. There are now 3-4 130" type bucks and one big one passing through every couple days past a camera or two.
The big one was the biggest I had on camera last year. He shed his antlers sometime between 12/3 and 12/10, and looked awful throughout the winter. This summer he's got a big full body back, although it looks like his rack may have gone downhill slightly. Still a really nice buck.
I'll see if I can get some pictures posted later tonight.
