Boys it was hell out there this morning. The wife wanted to stock up on some things just in case so she decided we should go to the Meijer's store in Valparaiso at 6:30 am this morning. There was a large amount of shoppers as if it was 12:00 noon on a Saturday and most of these folks were on a mission. There was NO TOILET PAPER, PAPER TOWEL, AND ONLY DISTILLED WATER LEFT. I got lucky because I knew where a supply of infant drinking water was and paper towels in the hardware area so we got those most coveted items. Things such as dry pasta mixes, stuffings, mac and cheese were either gone or just about gone. Regular bar soaps were still in stock but all types of pump soaps were gone and don't even ask about hand sanitizer. While there we found out that the first case of the virus has been detected in La Porte County.

We hit LaPorte Walmart this morning. Same deal, many empty shelves. Couple face masks, and lots of rubber gloves worn.
To contribute to the pandemic, we are heading out for steelhead amongst all the other deplorables out there. We can all worry together. 🙄

In little old Ohio co we went this morning around 1030am to the store. Lots of supplies. Meat cutters were sending out meat and there was toilet paper on the shelves. In fact, I didn’t see one cart or person with any toilet paper to checkout. Guess we don’t hoard down here and leave stuff for others if we don’t need it. The song Country Boy Can Survive comes to mind. Sure glad I don’t live in the city.

I just got back from as much of a shopping trip as I will go on. Went to Meijer to get beer and wine. The store was busy, but as expected for Saturday afternoon. I did notice that the milk, cheese, and peanut butter shelves were depleted, but not bare. Plenty of booze on the shelves. Then to BPS. The spring fishing sale is on and they take trade in's for credit. The store was absolutely packed, so much that I just grabbed the two rods that I was after and left. No browsing. I stopped by the brewery nearest my house for some relaxation. The place was almost empty and the 2006 Big East tournament was on TV. Time to get cleaned up and head out for out usual Saturday dinner. One of the local breweries has great pizza and a vintage arcade. Good food, good beer, and the kids enjoy the arcade.

My first stop yesterday was Walmart. Pastas, canned, goods, cleaning supplies, and toiletries were in short supply, as well as ramen. Fresh foods were still well stocked.
I grabbed some extra diapers and baby wipes. Mom said those were all gone today, one guy actually spit on diapers a lady had in her cart. He went to jail and nobody got the diapers. Other reports of people stealing toilet paper out of carts that others had already paid for.
Sams club was also out of TP and plain frozen chicken. I spent an hour yesterday wrapping fresh meat in butcher paper. Both freezers are now packed to the brim and the gas cans are all full. I also had the propane tanks filled.
I hate to partake in the craziness but my Mom didnt raise a fool. I see the path were going down.

In the past 2 weeks I have put half of a beef and half of a hog in the freezer. NOTHING to do with the "crisis",we do this yearly. I realize most of us have deer in the freezer, but I still love my beef and pork! Anybody who has never bought "bulk" as I mentioned should consider it. It's cheaper in the long run, mine is local and readily available.

I went to Walmart for a few things today during the sleet storm. Not very busy, but I guess they got wiped out yesterday. Paper goods aisle was bare. They were actively trying to restock and they were cleaning the checkout machines, which was good to see. I can't really bring myself to stock up or horde things, just not the way I was raised. I probably should, at least to have enough to help any family or friends, later if needed. Just growing up with very little, it is hard for me to do!

If someone spit on something in my cart I would end up beating them to the jail because of the detour by the ER they would have to take.

I was at the Plymouth Walmart today at 3am to beat the crowd. Maybe 10 people in the store. Paper isle was bare, 2 gallon s of bleach left. No potatoes, very few frozen veggies, very few frozen pizza. Powdered laundry soap was almost gone - I got the last box of the stuff I use, but I was down to about 3 loads of soap. The lady that was stocking veggies said Thursday was like black Friday and the day after Christmas all rolled into 1 day. She said Friday morning they stopped taking on-line grocery orders because they couldn't fill any more; 5,500 orders per day is their limit she said. Where the heck do all those people live? ? Half the canned goods isle was bare, very few eggs, no lettuce or pre-packaged lettuce (for Mom). Friday I hit Kroger and Aldi in Plymouth for Mom. Had to get a cart from someone at both places that just finished using it, and both stores were pretty well picked over. Kroger had a few 4 packs of toilet paper, but at $10/pack. I hit another store in a smaller town at noon today and it was business as usual, no shortages or bare spots on the shelves. I did see one person with a cart FULL of pork and beef and chicken. BUT they did have a meat sale going on too..... The food ministry at 23 & 30 had a limit 6 on TP, they had to do that after yesterday when people were pushing 2 carts one with food piled high, the other piled high with paper goods. I have everything I wanted to get, Mom has everything she needs so we both can play hermit next week or 3. I will need to go out as I'm trying to eat healthier and eating more fresh veggies. I have to take her to the Cardio doc next week, I see the Dr. 1st thing Monday; I'm hitting the Sporting Clays range tomorrow and spending the week at one clients place doing TSI and a few other things. I told Mom that she needed to wear gloves and disinfect the surface that she puts the mail on to open, as she is prone to A-fib and is 91 years young. I'll do her shopping and what running around she needs to do for her "just in case". I am using hand sanitizer before I get in the truck, but jeez, think about it, there's no way to keep everything disinfected - I'm just limiting exposure. No different than any other serious flu bug that goes around. When I filled the truck with diesel today the cashier and I were talking. She was at Walmart in Plymouth at 4:30 pm yesterday and said there were Plymouth Police walking through the store. Seems there was a fight inside the store around 3 pm...... I normally don't carry 100% of the time I am out in public (I know, I know) but I am doing so now. In Chicago a buddy stopped at the bank to get some $$ and they were out of $100 bills. His buddy stopped at 3 different ATM's and they were out of cash. Will somebody please close the doors to the loony bin? Jeez..................................

I went out again tonight. Yesterday I started catching word of heavy travel regulations coming down the pipe. Mostly from people involved in Covid-19 discussions at the states level (not our state). As we see with Ohio, Illinois, and parts of Tennessee, this is likely becoming a reality.
Decided pet food and boos were likely to be the next items flying off the shelf. Alcohol was easy to get, pet food is showing slow signs of being gobbled up. Shelves were absolutely bare at walmart, bread, water, fresh meat, frozen goods, non perishables, all picked through.
I expect that after domestic travel restrictions next week (California is gonna be the first to completely lock down),people arent going to like this or listen. Next up will be mandated curfews and suspended gun sales.

I was at Kroger just a bit earlier, and almost took photos with my phone, but decided against it, and just got in and got out. The meat case looked like it had been looted. I didn`t go down the paper products isle, or the frozen food section. I just shake my head at how so many people are just brain-dead sheep. They buy into anything this evil media spews, and they react accordingly. That`s where the hysteria and panic come from. Worst case, I bought two tubs of survival foods several years ago. I reminded my wife of those this morning and said: "you`re welcome". LOL. She said she bets those would be yummy. I said, if it`s that which keeps us from going hungry, we`ll consider ourselves blessed to have them. I so miss the old America, where people had character, ethics, and a work ethic and stubbornness that wouldn`t allow then to grovel at the government trough, but made them have a determination that they would fend for themselves even if it got uncomfortable. I just cannot have respect for whiny, sniveling people who expect to be taken care of.

At least most people are getting out there in an attempt to fend for themselves instead of waiting for the fema trucks to save them.

I appreciate what you`re saying...it`s just that, c`mon, we`re creating supply chain issues that don`t even need to exist. There`s been no disruption of the supply chain so far, there are plenty of groceries and paper products available. At least until the panic buying creates artificial shortages. As I`ve said many times, cooler heads must prevail. STOP with the hysteria. STOP with the panic. STOP creating problems where none really exist.

You're not wrong, but at the end of the day, is it really our business how people choose to spend their money? I guess one could argue if it affects one personally then it becomes their business. I dont know what the answer is, I just hope this is finally the thing that opens peoples eyes to preparedness. Sadly it wont, most of these canned goods will end up at food banks in a few weeks. Most of them would be just as happy eating MREs and a FEMA camp. ETA: Marshal law and Recession are pretty much certain at this point. Weve already put those wheels in motion and there is no reeling it back in.

Time to get your arms at the ready to guard the homestead. Have no doubt pandemonium is nearing.

I said, I get that, but home invasions have already been happening for some time anyway. Now maybe it`s just one more excuse for them. I don`t want any trouble, don`t want to hurt anyone, but it would be extremely unwise to try to enter my home uninvited.

States are recalling and activating their National Guard in preparation of the next steps. If anyone doesn't think this isn't going to become a complete storm before the sun rises on better days you are fooling yourselves.
