My dad thinks something like someone has a dam down stream or something. Not sure aboot stocking it but DNR used to come out every other year and spend a week there shocking for Lamprey eels.

My boy Luke wanted to fish Trail Creek again, so we went this morning. He got these 2 really nice steelhead on a single egg drifting thru a hole on a sharp bend. I always let him go first to get first crack at them. He is a fishing machine! He did catch a bunch of little 10" stockers on his fly rod and hand tied flies.

I love steelhead on the grill. Have not had any in about 5 years

Way to go Luke, I bet he had a ball reeling those in.

For sure! He has the touch, no doubt. He got the fishing gene from my dad obviously, not me. Lol.

It's a Lake Michigan tributary. So the fish come and go. We don't have anything like that down here The chinook in the fall that come to spawn and die, can be 25-30# or more. Back in the day, it used to be loaded when they were stocking more fish. Fun times for sure! The steelhead stay here all winter, so lots of time to go when the weather is decent. I used to do this with my dad when I was younger, but we got away from it. Now I thought I would try it with my boy, and its everything I remember.

Plus my kids are die hard fiaherman

I wish my kids were ate up with fishing but they only do it because they feel sorry for me I guess. They never want to hunt so I will take the every now and again. Keep it up guys. My favorite memories were Sundays after church sitting on a muddy riverbank catching carp with my old man.

I fished and hunted the least this year. Been to bee busy, barn insulation busy, and updating house busy. Let to many week ends slip by that's for sure.

I just live too far to afford to go on a regular basis and can not justify driving up for a day just to see if I can catch one.

When you smoke them are doing a whole side at a time I use to gut them steak them and smoke It is hard to believe how little water they can be in you’d think they need a whole lake not just a small creek

I fillet them, then cut the fillet in half to shorten length. Instead of brining, I just add favorite rub, and smoke with skin side down. Smoke until temp is 130 or 135deg (have to look up safe temp for fish), done. Comes out amazing! Saw a video and had to try one. Cant believe it!!!

I have a great brine, it's a PITA to make, but it works really well.
