Check out Hoosier trapping supply. They have the standard Berkshire cable stake at 15 inches and the soft ground Berkshire cable stake at 30 inches. They won't pull those out you will probably have to dig them out.

Good going!!! Still have to call ya. No more pictures of coyotes on the trail cam, but I'm going to put a few large rocks near where they were seen, maybe they will act as scent posts? If not at least I can use them as backers for dirt hole sets. Now 'coons are showing up on the trail cam, one looks like a small bear. I have some DP coon traps, and a live trap. Gotta figure out a good way to anchor the DP traps in sand - I don't want them getting pulled and having the coons wear them as jewelry. How often do you freshen up the dirthole set with new lure? I usually refresh them after a rain or good snow. I agree with the cable stakes 30 inches in sand. A few years ago I had a coyote pull a 15 inch rebar stake and my ground is clay. All I use now are cable stakes.

I'm going to take a page from one of the Hoosier Trapper Supply videos - use their split rings to attach the traps to the cable stake. Going to place an order on Monday, going to order chew proof swivels, shock springs and some other supplies. I've had 'coons twist off and break rebar tie wire on the DP traps, even when I double stranded it.

I agree it was very nice visiting with you yesterday. If you have any questions once get started feel free to call. Although it looks like you have a pretty good idea of what you are doing. Good luck!!

I used to take a piece of wood about the size of a stick of fire wood drill a hole at an angle in it and put my lure in the hole and a little urine on the end. Then set my trap and use the wood for backing. Also have had good luck using a bleached out bone for backing.

Well, it took longer than I thought to make a few sets. made 2 dirthole sets, and I will report on how they do. Will put in a few more sets this weekend. I need to get a system going, and the only way to do that is keep plugging in sets.
One thing I learned today is that I really dislike the rubber gloves that are sold as trapping gloves. I tried a pair when I put bait and lure in the sets. Next time I'll use disposable "exam" gloves. Too much fumbling around and not enough dexterity with the rubber gloves. I needed to take more dirt out of the trap bed than I originally expected, just to get the chain and shock spring in there and to leave enough dirt to bed the trap solidly.
Practice, practice, practice!!! man, I sure was on pins and needles moving the trap pan down to the final position, expecting it to fire on me at any moment. I DID scrape the wax off of the trigger and dog before trying to set them.
Using Hoosier Trapper Supply Coyote Arctic bait in the dirt hole set, one with coyote gland lure, the other with Vixen Elixar as lure. Gave each a shot of coyote urine.

Since Fox season is over with, I'll have to make a piece of plywood with a slot on it or get a catch pole, I can see having to release a Red Fox in my future. Walked another property I hunt, found lots of coyote scat in the woods. Going to set there next few days.

Fox are easy to release. grab by the end of the tail, then grab by the back of the neck. They hardly struggle once you get you hands on them...except greys...LOL Done a young wolf like this once also, dont think I would try it with a adult.

O.K. So I see as one hand on the tail, one on the neck, then step on the trap springs? I bet I could release an adult wolf like that easily. (I'd have to calm it down with a .22LR first though)

Thanks Budd!!!
Update: No canines today, nothing worked the sets. Will try refreshing the lure at the sets, the rain Fri night/yesterday might have washed most away?
I watched the Hoosier Trapper Supply video again today, next sets I won't put the chain under the trap, but bury it next to the trap like they do in the video. That'll make bedding the trap easier.

Might cost more in fuel to get it than to buy new, where you located? I'm about 12 miles West of Plymouth, Indiana
