We have lived off wood heat exclusively for 16yrs. Sometimes a pain, but mostly worthwhile. I burn all winter too. Beats 2 grand in LP gas. I live in a woods so always dead wood /trees to cut You need a new furnace or some insulation if your spending 2 grand on LP gas

We live about 15mi from Lake Michigan and the wind is terrible all the time. Unfortunately, we live amongst wide open ag fields. Its gotten worse in recent years, as the farmers have pulled the tree rows and woods. We even have to run electric/oil radiant heaters when it gets real cold.

Sunday 1 20 2019 at 4:45 PM CST. Snowing a little with light snowflakes. About 3 to 4 inches accumulated overnight. It snowed heavy last night and tapered off this morning. West Side of Evansville, IN.

The wind hits me from every direction but N. When there is no wind the furnace will not run much. When it is windy and cold it will kick on regularly. That is why I burn wood(a side from the fact I am cheap and the wood is free. All I got to do is cut and split) PS I am not afraid of work. I can lay beside it and go to sleep!

Sure still seems a bunch I don’t have the lake but also live right in the middle of a field with nothing much for wind break around me all ag so I get tons of wind also I heat my house 1965 sq feet up on a full walk out basement stove dryer are gas plus run the unit heater in the shop a bunch I have a 1000 gallon tank that I fill in summer at $ 110 to125 a gallon most years $ 650 to 700 bucks to fill and that gets me through the year

About 75 here with my wood stove! Front door was froze shut this morning...what else can I do? Keep the wood piled up next to the stove I guess.

degrees right now. That's the lowest seen. Forecast was -9. I'll take the few weeks of very cold sub freezing weather every year. Cut down on bugs during turkey season.

Got about 7" of BIG flake snow. Shoveled off the sidewalk to the driveway and a path for the small dog to do his business. Either there was a lot of settling or there was enough warmth left in the ground and concrete because there was only 4" of snow left on the driveway Sunday morning.

Anybody get any good pictures of the “blood moon”? No, but we did watch some of it live! I tried, but we were in the band of clouds coming from Lake Michigan. +11°F when I went to bed at 11 pm CST, -9°F when I got up at 6:30, plus sometime last night we had about 3/4" of fluffy lake effect snow. They are saying a high of 36°F tomorrow with rain. All can think is with it being this cold out now, if we get rain it will just make a coating of ice on everything.

Biggest issue here was from the drifting and the bitter cold. MIL trailer had frozen pipes. The snow fall itself wasn't bad...the wind and the drifting it what gets us here. We can get 4" of snow but with sufficient winds from the proper direction and we will get 2 foot snow drifts across the roads. I'm just glad we didn't loose power.
I see they are calling for real cold again by the weekend and into next week....
