"Pending pregnancy?" You mean it hasn't happened yet? LOL Haha. Something happened. 😉 In all seriousness my wife has had some complications with her heart during this one, so what happens with her and the baby is gonna dictate everything Ha....I'm doing my best to hold mine off to give me one more hunting season. But seriously I understand the heart thing, my wife may need to have a stent before we get too far along.

Accidents do happen.. It was a fortunate coincidence that ours resulted in an April birth The second time, I intentionally blocked out calendar periods that occurred 9 months prior to September-November.

Greeting bullseye 69. There are areas that do come up for lease and yes one can go for one of those with some friends, or join an already made up syndicate. Or like bird shooting, just buy a days stalking with an outfitter. Or you just get permission from the landowner, there is no public hunting land over here. Obviously i do not bother with deer unless asked by the farmer, i do enough of that for a job, but predators i have miles and miles of shooting ground which actually goes into scotland. bird shooting i buy three or four days a season down south with friends. Geese, some farms will let one on to shoot geese if one asks politely. That is how it works over here. Regards Billy.

Got my stag there. Will be heading back there in November for more hunting. Deer and maybe some goose hunting.

Unsuccessful on bull and cow elk tags in Wyoming. AZ will be the next state to post results. How many preference points did you have for the Elk, and how many were needed to guarantee a successful draw in the unit you wanted to hunt? One last question (if you know). If you were looking to go after a trophy bull in Wy, guided or not, what unit would you apply for?

If you were looking to go after a trophy bull in Wy, guided or not, what unit would you apply for? I had 5 points this year, it was 15% with 5 points last year. This year it was 25% with 6 points. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and apply for a general tag, which was 100% with 2 points. For the cow tag, it is a straight random draw (no points) with odds at about 27% this year. I've never hunted a bull, only cows. A trophy to me would be any 5 or 6 point bull. As far as where to apply, it would just depend on how many points I had. I like area 11 due to the 10/1 rifle opener, elk are still in full rut, but from what I read top-end trophy potential is lower than other areas, namely the western part of the state near Yellowstone. If I ever draw that Area 11 tag, I'll just start applying general after that. You can pretty well count on drawing that at least once every 2-3 years. I killed a cow in 2.5 days in a general unit this year, and had multiple opportunities at 6-point bulls if I'd had a bull tag. Do you have any elk points in Wyoming?

Yes, A buddy and I have a few preference points, we just can't seem to get time off together to go, so I believe as of 2018 we each have 12 points. (started buying them in 2006 and never burned any for Elk)

You should be able to get into a great area with 12 points.[/quote] My cousin, who lives in Casper called me 2 years ago and said that I should check into a certain area that they were opening up to general tags, rifle during the rut. Seems the Elk were becoming a problem and the Wyoming game and fish needed to thin them out. When I talked to the Game and Fish they said there was no way I could get a tag without burning all my points, and they also said that basically no matter what unit I applied for, I'd draw a tag. I forget what area that was, but my cousin said that with the rifle that I have, that area that opened up would have been very easy pickings. Since I didn't want to burn the points, I didn't apply. I just checked the preference points. Elk 13, Deer 10 Antelope 10. I need to get out there to hunt!!! I'm planning a Colorado mule deer hunt for 2020 with a buddy there. No out of state hunts for 2018 for me except the usual Wisconsin deer hunt. I'm accumulating bear preference points there too.

If I had 13 points I'd probably burn them in 16. The most recent Wyoming elk hunt was done there.

I put in my MT deer application this morning. Hoping to draw with one point. Might hunt the Missouri River Breaks country if successful.

I need to look into putting in. I was outside Devils Tower last summer looking at wildlife. The owner rancher stopped and shot the breeze for 2 hours. When I left I had permission to hunt he and his brothers 20,000 acre ranch.

I applied for deer, pronghorn, and elk in CO this morning. I will not draw any, but did list an impossible draw choice so that I will receive a preference point for each as well as the leftover list following the draw. If there are any good tags on the leftover list that fit my schedule I may try to snag one at that time, depending on how the other draws go between now and then.
Arizona elk credit card hits are happening today, so I should get a notification on my CC account if I drew a tag. Not likely but possible.
