i would start with the bill author and then watch the House Natural Resources Committee meeting schedule. It's not on the schedule for this Wednesday that I know of.

The bill author would be representative Craig Fry. I believe he is a Republican which is suprising given that parties long term stance on guns and hunting. He has received lots of pressure from constituents that live on the st. joe river. Alot of it has to do with the mute swan issue. Our (hunters) one saving grace is that they(anti-hunters) can not get hunting shut down due to a noise ordinance because the trains that come out of the Elkhart railyard are louder than gunfire ever will be. That's why they are pushing this populated area issue. This needs to be STOPPED. If we don't band together and stop this collectively who knows what battle we will lose in the future. What's next? Are we going to lose our fishing rights also just because certain people don't agree with what we're doing. Make no mistake about it, this is NOT a public safety issue. It's a anti-hunting issue! Rep. Fry is NOT a Republican. He's one of "them".... and thus it comes as no surprise that he would sponsor garbage legislation like this.

Here is Rep. Fry's webpage: www.in.gov/legislative/house_democrats/fry_legislation.htmlThe tab for contact information is on the left side of the webpage. As Conservation Chair of the Central Indiana Chapter of Delta Waterfowl, we will be organizing opposition to this proposal. I will let you all know what steps we are taking. Jack is correct, at this time HB1194 is NOT scheduled for the Natural Resources Committee meeting on Wednesday. I'll keep watching for when it does come up. After looking at the make up of the NR Committee, I discovered it's made up of a 7-5 Democrat majority. We do need to stand and fight this!!!!!

I've already contacted Delta HQ to see what help they will give us. That's the big difference between DU and DW..... DW will fight for hunter rights and to keep areas open to waterfowl hunting, DU is merely interested in land conservation and acquisition. Don't get me wrong, I'm a DU member also, because both groups are great for waterfowl, but I don't understand how DU can sit back and not fight the fight when 95% of their resources come from the hunting community.

I will send my 2 cents in to the author and where ever else it ends up. Don't be confused on who wants to shut down hunting or gun rights. It isn't about dem or republican. Bosma and the gang at Geist proved that.

It could be scary for us all on how they define "an area of high population density". It could shut down all hunting on Indiana lakes.

I have zero doubt that if this passes, that next year there would be a push to move it to all bodies of Indiana water.

You have to remember most people who live on rivers and lakes think the river or lake belongs to them and non-property owners shouldn't be allowed on. All of us need to band together and get this stopped. h.h.

I would encourage everyone to email your representative and tell them this is an ANTI-Hunter bill and would hurt the lives of hundreds of guides and businesses that depend on waterfowl hunting on Indiana's lakes and rivers. Find out who your representative is and email them.

I spoke with the DNR tonight (1-14-08) ask asked that they oppose this bill. I was informed that they have not met with Rep Fry yet but, they will not support it.
I could not get a commitment that they would oppose the bill (although I believe they will).
He stated this bill is the direct result of people hunting close to house on the Saint Joe and being upset that people could hunt in residnetal areas. I asked if he was aware that the ICO's in that area have ticketed the homeowners not the hunters in that area becuase of these hunts (thanks Pig). He was aware of this.
------------------
My Rant:
It just goes to show no matter what you stand for if you don't like the laws, just get them changed. We all saw this happen at giest and if this happens who knows what will be next.
IF YOU ARE OPPESED TO THIS BILL, DO SOMETHING! Help protect hunting. If you haven't made a few phone calls or written a few letters then get off your butt.
