Talk about a creek cleaner. We got over 4" rain in approx 1.5 hour's. Many roads in Switz County are flooded and unpassable. Holy cow.

I had heard we got 4-5 inches down at our place. I bet our creek was a raging rapid! it amazes me every time we get an inch or two of rain our lazy creek turns into this raging monster.
Heading down to our place in two weeks to turn some ground to get started on prepping some food plots for this fall. Looking to plant a mix of rye grass and winter peas in the large plot and forage oats in the two smaller plots.
I am also happy to report that we are seeing tons of deer again. During the late winter and spring it seemed like all of the deer had moved off of our place but now they are back and I can't wait to go pull the cards on the two cameras I have out.

Bush hogged some clover plots and sprayed a couple other's over weekend. Fertilized ALFALFA with potash and added some lime, getting ready for 3rd cutting. Corn, clover, alfalfa all look great and deer are flocking to all the plot's. Making plan's for some small fall plot's 3 - 1/4 acre plot's. Plan on putting a mixture of turnip/rape and forage oat's and wheat. Also bush hogged some logging road's for easy access to stand's. Seeing several potenial wall hanger's and am starting to get the itch.

I am going to be down this weekend to turn some dirt in a couple spots in preperation for fall food plots. I am just going the route of pre mixed seed. In two small 1/4 acre plots I am going with WTI forage oats. and I am also planting about an acre of the Anter king Fall/Winter/Spring blend which is fall rye and winter peas.
I have had a couple cameras (Moutlrie M880's) out since the last week in June so I am pretty excited to see if we have had any bucks move back into the area. I know we have lots of does running around just need the boys to show up to the party.

Been seeing lot's of deer. Both does and buck's. I'm sure you will have plenty of pic's. Got a good soaking rain Sunday night so you should be good to go on planting. I am going to wait till August to do any additional planting. Trying to get 2nd cutting of hay done and then I can set back and relax a bit.

Turned the soil in the old pasture for the new food plot this weekend. It is going to be L shaped and be about 1 acre. I will go back probably the last week of August till it up and plant the Winter Rye and Winter peas.
Also checked my two cameras I had out and really didn't have much as far as bucks go just a few spikes and a few small guys. But I have lots and lots of does so hopefully as the season moves on and the bucks start to seperate from the bachelor groups I will get some more moving into my area. I also put out a new camera in a pretty remote area on our property so it wouldn't surprise me if thats where most of the good bucks are hiding.

I have been trying to get deer to hit my mineral sites all summer and now its finally happening. I am also starting to get more pictures of deer all the time now with more moving into the area it seems. I went down and spot sprayed some of our plots in preperation for our Labor Day weekend planting. This will be our first large scale fall food plot and I am really hoping that it will draw in the deer and keep them here later into the year.

I have a contractual agreement with the DNR to replant 8 acres of WRP ground back into warn seasonal grasses, wildflowers and small areas of clover. This is a cost share program and I will be reimbursed based on a fixed schedule. I have been directed to mow all of this ground down the first week of September then in 4 weeks spray ROUNDUP over the entire area. In the spring I will burn the entire area and then hit any regrowth with round up again before planting. The DNR has several different sized no-till planters that you can use free of charge. The hardest part of this entire project in my opinion would be the spraying of ROUNDUP so just for the heck of it I spoke with the owner of a company that does field spraying of liquid chemicals with those real tall 4 wheel sprayers that have booms which can extend out to 90 feet, he quoted me a price that I couldn't pass up. With that sprayer the job will be done in less than an hour and he can reach out over the banks of my marsh and get those hard to reach areas.

When I was in college I worked for a local fert company and every once in awhile I got to drive one of those sprayers. Its amazing the things they can do and how big they are getting.
