Got a lot done over weekend. Fertilized rest of hay fields. Plowed under a acre food plot I will be planting to clover and chicory mix. Added some mineral to couple mineral licks. Got boom attachment and tank mounted on my quad and will be spraying clover plots next dry spell. Turkey season right around the corner. Throbak I guess the current agent is leaving and a new one is coming in. They told me probably couldn't get her out in time to get anything done this year, but I will have the agent out as I have some interior fencing and barn area I want to add a water source too as well as some water run off issues around barn. They seemed to think they could help and make some suggestions.

Isn't it great when spring finally gets here, I have been waiting sense the end of deer season to start working on new plots and fixing some permanent deer stands. Some of our duck blinds need new plywood to, its going to be a busy summer and early archery will be here soon, whoo hoo.

Seeded new plot to imperial whitetail clover first thing this morning. Weatherman is calling for rain tonight and tomorrow so should be good. Also sprayed my other clover plots with grass killer and plan on hitting them with broadleaf weed killer in a couple weeks. All that is left is my 3 acre corn patch. Plan on tilling it up this weekend and then planting first weekend in May. (Then should be done untill fall.) Probably set trail cams out mid June to see what this year's crop looks like.

Planted 12 aces field corn between me and 2 neighbor's. Me 3 acres and them 4 acres each. Took pretty much all day as we were using a 1950's Ford 2 row planter. LOL but it does a great job. We always get good stands from it.

Well I just ordered my Whitetail institute power plant for the new plot and also Chicory plus to expand our clover plot. Now I just need life to stop getting in the way of my food plot plans. Between traveling for work, Family events, and being sick earlier this spring its hard to find the time to get down to the property and get stuff done.
Luckily I mowed the pasture early this spring and one of the guys who hunts our place was able to get there two weeks ago and spray everything that needed it. Now hopefully it will stay dry enough so in 2 weeks I can fire up the new tiller for the first time and get some stuff planted.
I know our deer density is pretty high where we are at and I am only planting 1.5 acres of the power plant but I kinda just wanted to see what would happen. Maybe I will get lucky and the farmer about 1 1/2 miles down the road will get his fields planted and it won't be so bad! LOL
I will post some pics of the planting when I get done

All the field corn is up and looking good. New imperial whitetail clover is looking good also as is alfalfa which is starting to flower. Start cutting it in about 10 days depending on weather.

Not exactly a "food plot" but we are taking 3.8 acres of border from one of our more erodible field edges and putting it the CRP program. Seed mix is also qualified for the IDNR's quail habitat incentive which also gave us a few extra bucks when signing up. I've got several other areas in mind for "upgrades" but am kind of planning on the annual $$$ from this small start to be the incentive for the rest of the "wish list" that has not been done for budgetary reasons.

The guy who leases the place has not planted yet. The greener the soybeans are October, better hunting for me.

Well with work obligations and the rain I have not had a chance to get down to our place and plant yet. With the wet weather we are having this week it is looking like memorial day weekend will be when I get the power plant in the ground. I hope the farmer down the road has had better luck. I would love it if he had about 2 weeks head start on me so it might help give my plot a chance because alot of the deer will be hitting his place.
I will be down this weekend so maybe I can at least get some stuff done but it all depends on how moist the soil is.

We have been extremely dry here in southeastern indiana. We had little over 1.5 rain last couple days and I was out this morning bushhoging. Ground is really soaking it up. Unless we get some more rain next day or 2 I will be planting sweet corn sunday.

I just didn't want to use our brand new shiny tiller in wet soil. I was hoping for somewhat dry conditions for its maiden run. heres hoping I can get a good chunk done this weekend then!

Got a few showers this morning but I still think it will be dry enough to do some work by sunday afternoon. Corn is 4" or better already and new imp whitetail clover plot is really taking off with the rain we have had over the past week. Planning on cutting alfalfa next weekend weather permiting?? Local deer usually really start to concentrate on the alfalfa after the fist cutting is done and new growth begin's. Will get trail cams out to see what this year's deer crop looks like.

Starting cutting hay today. Was gonna give my alfalfa another week before cutting but there were over 65 deer feeding in it tonight so I decided to cut it while there's still some left. LOL I have never seen anything draw deer like Alfalfa. Summer till mid winter they use the field.

yeah I have a few guys here in IL that have some fields by us. Best place to go watch deer on a summer night.
I will be finishing up my plots this weekend. Might get a little hinge cutting done as well. Weather forecast looks pretty dang awesome so I may have to sit back and have a few cold ones after I get my to do list done.

Got some grass hay and alfalfa cut and baled over weekend. Thought I was watching and didn't mow over any fawns, but found one while baling that I killed. (Hate it.) I stress the whole time i'm mowing watching for them, but they blend in so well. This is first one i've hit in last 5 year's. Probably relocated a dozen or more to wood's edge.

I hit one last year while mowing and I was just sick over the whole thing. We usually try not to mow any of out pastures or grassy fields from the first week of May until late June. Usually by then the fawns are up and moving a little more.
I got our clover plot extended this weekend and when I went to work the ground for the second plot my tiller broke. I called Zimmer and it looks like the slip clutch went out in it. Luckily I am still under warranty so I will need to get that fixed soon. May have to hold off on adding some food plots until late Aug. I tell ya sometimes its hard to get this stuff done when you have 100 other things going on. Life keeps getting in the way!

Got my 3.8 acres of CRP planted yesterday. Used the no-till drill from the SCS office and followed their advice for settings...ended up running over the whole plot three times and still had some seed left Of course it also showered on me several times while trying to get it planted-got too greasy twice so I'd wait about an hour and go back at it again. I also sprayed down a small patch, maybe 1/2 acre of some creek bottom ground that I'm planning on using any extra soybean seed my cousin has left over after he replants his "pond areas"...
