Went out for a quick stalk hunt. Saw three but they were quickly out of range with all the trees in the way. It was fun. I just love this time of year.

When I finished hunting, I stopped by the processor to check on the deer that my buddy found by Geist. The processor said it was shot recently and he didn't think it was from the park hunt. He said there was fresh clotting where the broadhead was. He said it was shot within the last week. He found this next to his spine and heading towards the neck. It ruined the back strap and neck meat. There was hardly any infection in both places, that is the entry and where the broadhead rested. I'm happy that the meat is fine, I was worried about it.

That is interesting Michael.
Something finally got to his nerve system and put him down.
Thanks for sharing..

So more than likely was shot by a legal hunter you think? Is this a urban zone?? Regardless someone probably lost some sleep over losing that buck. At least you were able to put him down and harvest the meat off him.

At least you were able to put him down and harvest the meat off him. I'm really not sure what to think at this point. When the processor said it was a week or less when it was shot, I automatically thought it was poached, but there are plenty of homes around the area that have land, so I'm not sure. You are right, someone lost sleep over him. He is a nice buck. My dog is loving his antlers. ;-) A guy at work asked if I was going to mount it. I just laughed. No!!! My first mount will be something I hunted not given.

I hate to think that someone would just shoot a nice buck like that and not at least try to recover.

Good luck to those who are out there trying to put meat in the freezer.
I hope you are successful.

Walked in about 4 pm tonight and saw lots of tails. Deer had been in the acorns eating after the snow right in front of my stand. Frustrating to say the least after not seeing and deer all of muzzleloader season.

Went out for a couple of hours. Saw one when I was walking in around 10. It didn't come my way. Heading back out in a few hours. They came back to the acorns over night it looked like.

Got a doe last night. It was a late night. We tried to drive in the woods a little way to get her and got stuck on a stump we didn't see because of the snow. Had to have a friend come with a winch to get us out..

They have definitely been there plenty of tracks and droppings. Saw nothing, stopped in to visit with them for a few minutes - Bob tells me there was a doe standing next to my truck when he went out. Been that kind of a year!!
