I would think if poached that poacher would have cut rack off?? Doesn't make much sense to just shoot and leave.

I can't explain it either, other than to say my buddy walked up on it right after it was shot and that spooked the poacher away. I am not from that side of town, so I don't know if there is public hunting around there. I kind if doubt it and I know for sure there is no hunting aloud where he was found. I was just looking at the video of the buck when my buddy found it. It is moving it's back legs. I am not sure why it couldn't get up. This is just strange. Do you think this deer could have been shot a long time ago and it just now was weak enough to fall over and not get up? Here is the video. youtu.be/K8s2ZVL1pv4

The lack of hair around the wound might indicate an older wound?
If the broadhead was still in him maybe it finally worked its way into the spinal column or infection finally got to the spinal column?

Was forced to go out yesterday and rescue cameras and a blind before the river got to high. 20 minutes. 12 deer. 2 shots. 1 dead doe and one clean miss. River is/was raising very fast. Not sure I've ever seen it come up that fast. Congratulations... The Wabash rising will probably doom Woodmaster's planned doe cull on his lease. It doesn't take a lot of water to make it unhuntable..

White is supposed to get to 25' at hazleton and get there in a hurry. There is a river camp close to my property that a non river person leased this year. They bought a large yard barn type thing and converted it to living quarters and also put in a fifth wheel camper.
They were told but I guess didn't believe..... they will lose them both with this flood. 25' will put about 5' of water in the camper.

I'm wondering if he was shot during the Fort Harrison State Park reduction hunt dec 2 or 3. Actually, if I had to bet on it, I would put my money on that. If that is the case, he may have been overcome by infection; in which I wonder if the meat will be any good. Here is a map showing where the deer was found in comparison to Fort Harrison State Park.

That is possible.. Cutting around the wound would show if any infection is present.

Do u think another buck could have gotten him in a fight ? that could possibly explain the missing hair.. I found a dead buck in jan one year that had just died from a busted back led. there were 8-10 beds in the snow in a 25 yrd circle. all vegatation gone around them and big piles of droppings behind tjem where he never got up .

You didn't read post where it had a "Broadhead" embedded in back near spine.(So it was shot.) He's just wondering if poached and left for dead or another theory broadhead possibly finally worked through spine paralyzing the buck as it was still alive when he found it. It appears to be a few week old wound???

I went back and reread all posts and still did not.find where it said.it had a broadhead embeded in the spine I did see where he said had broad head hole near the spine. I was under.the empresion that that was.an.assumption ( and not fact) and was trying to shed light on another possibillity. I would hate to think it was entensionally left in that.manner(although I know it is possible)

Yes I assumed also, (LOL) when he said it had a broadhead wound near spine. (That the broadhead was embedded and arrow was broke off.) Possibly that broadhead pulled out with arrow, which is another sinerio that when pulled out may have finished severing spine which lead to paralyzing buck??? IDK I kinda assumed that since wasn't a pass through that broadhead was intact in spine??? Again IDK for sure but broadhead could have worked around from movement and eventually cut spine leading to paralysis. (THEORY) All we know for sure is deer was shot with bow/crossbow and was found near death partilly paralized. Which I think we can all agree is a sad thing for the animal to suffer that way. Am glad michaladkins was able to put the deer out of his misery.

JUST SOUTH OF 79TH ST IS WHERE I SET UP WHEN I GET DRAWED FOR THE FT. HARRISON S.P. HUNT. 2 YEARS AGO THERE WERE A LOT OF HUNTERS BACK IN THEIR. I HAD TWO GUYS SET UP JUST YARDS FORM ME. I COULD SEE THIS HAPPENING DEER WERE MOVING ALL DAY. ONE HUNTER SHOT EVERY ARROW OUT OF HIS QUIVER. NEEDLESS TO SAY HE DID'NT LIKE WHAT I HAD TO SAY. I'LL NEVER GO BACK UNTIL THEY CONTROL THE AMOUNT OF HUNTERS IN A AREA.

We all headed out this morning to Koscuisko County. Wow. I hate this weather. Wind was blowing wrong for this property and after two hours my boys and I gave up. This 20 F with a windchill stinks. Plenty of tracks though. Was great to be out in the woods as a family. I may end up eating my archery tag. O well, can't beat the youth license price.

Sitting in the buddy stand on my Dearborn County land with my daughter. I brought a gun for yotes. She is using my crossbow in case a buck walks by. We aren't in the market for a doe. It would be neat to get her first buck, though. I haven't been here since the gun opener. It's good to be out. Didn't get in stand till 3pm. Don't expect to see much, but you never know!

Headed out to Willow Slough this morning hoping to get a doe, but expecting nothing. Got teased on the drive in, saw 4 does. Of course in the woods, nothing. Walk out to the truck about 12 and while standing by the tailgate eating a sandwich I see a doe tail bouncing away and into the woods about 40-50 yds away. Of course gun was empty and she was really too far away for a shot anyway. Hopefully better luck next year as this morning was my last chance to be out in the woods.

Sitting in my stand in brown county. Got the bow and the muzzy. Did have a doe fawn come in and bed about 25 yards out. Gave her the pass. A buck or mature doe and I'm done for the season.
