I took a hike this afternoon in the deep snow to do a little scouting for next season. I suspected I knew a spot where does were holed up, and sure enough, I cut a deer track highway going into that woodlot. I followed it downhill through the thick woods, then it hooked like a horseshoe back uphill. All the sudden all heck broke loose, with deer jumping up and running away. There were 8 deer bedded in about a 15-yard area. Their tracks showed me where their escape route led to, so I'll file that away for future reference on the odd chance that I have someone drive that woodlot one day. I then visited another wooded section where I knew deer crossed into right at daylight, and sure enough, another deer highway. I followed that one way around a hilltop and determined that they were heading to another hilltop where I had assumed that they were bedding. I marked a tree with GPS that would put the deer passing later into legal shooting light than where they first enter that section. I had said that I was done for the year, but with 4 days off work, I'm tempted to brave the cold again. LOL! Best time to learn your property is with snow cover!

Sat with dad in a blind overlooking a cut bean field. About 2 hours before dark the deer started making their way into the field.
Not sure how many deer total.....more than 20.
3 different bucks over 150"....
Just never got one of them close enough to kill.
I was toasty..... small fleece blanket draped over my lap with a small catylist heater under my chair. Didn't even need gloves. I told dad to bring a blanket but he thought that was a silly idea. Bout an hour into the sit he looks over at me and between his teeth chattering he manages to ask me if the blanket works.....I just grinned and nodded.
Had deer close enough we could have conked them on the head with the gun barrel but the bigger bucks never wandered our way.

Braved the snow covered hill & went the back of the property good to see multiple sets of tracks on one of their normal travel lanes. What time were they made - good question. Heard no shots yet

As much as I hate to say it I'm starting to get a little burnt out this year. Countless hours in the woods and only one encounter with a shooter buck and very few mature does. Still would like to at least get one more deer down this season but man it's gettin rough

Still would like to at least get one more deer down this season but man it's gettin rough I know the feeling... With 2 good deer in the freezer, i find it harder and harder to force myself to brave the cold Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

Have heard several report's of buck's chasing does again just in last few days, so i'd guess secondary rut has begun to kick in. These next 10 days should be pretty decent.

Peeing from a treestand is much quieter in the snow.

If it freezes before it hits the ground a fella might be correct in saying it was to cold to hunt.

Not live from my stand but it is live from my car (at home now). I was on my way home from work and as always I'm taking the back road where I see deer almost every night. Well, tonight as I drove by, I couldn't even count how many deer there were! I just needed to tell someone haha. I about wrecked my car I was so excited. If I was to guess, there was any where from 15-20 deer all within a 5 acre crop. This was at 5:42 when I looked at my clock. Happy hunting!

Well just sitting in the truck, after hunting since dark, Pretty cold, but I saw several deer around 9am till 10am, 6 does altogether in the woods feeding, and had 2 smaller bucks chasing them, I tried to post on stand, but my hands were very cold. We'll be back at it this evening, and again in the am. I am hoping the does stay, and draw in a nicer buck,

I'm out in Greene county trying to fill my buck tag. It has been an enjoyable morning so far. I just watched 4 or 5 turkeys come off their roost. Hopefully I will get to see some venison walking around! Good luck to those who are out right now.

It was a pretty good day with the exception of not harvesting a deer.
I saw a total of 5 deer. 4 really nice bucks and 1 doe that was with a buck. I had one of the bucks dead to rights, but there was condensation in the powder, so needless to say, no bang. By the time I got reloaded, he was gone.
Maybe I will actually get one next time. It was great to be in the woods rather than the office.

Back in the stand after what seemed like a month. Set up in a narrow finger woods with cut corn field on my left and been field on my right. Pulled card from camera on way in and had toms of does and only 3 bucks ( non shooters). Be happy with a doe at this point.
