Had two does at 20 yards easy shots, but for some reason I didn't pull the trigger? I followed their tracks and actually caught up with them, pretty amazing experience for me! I was 99% sure that my shots would be true but the was a little light brush in the way, so I never shot. There is always next time...

Around 4 pm yesterday I heard a lot of shots from the surrounding area. Mostly far off. Figured the deer were starting to move. Sure enough, three of them come down the hill toward my blind. All of them loitered for a while eating beech leaves off the small trees. Then two does wandered off while the third one bedded down about 70 yards away pulling beech leaves off low hanging limbs. Talk about eating in bed! I watched him for an hour before he stood up and followed the trail in the snow left by the does. Once I got a better look and confirmed he was a 6 pt., I put a round in him just above the right shoulder. He went down like a sack of potatoes. Died right in his tracks.
My first buck in several years due to overseas work so it was a nice way to come home!

Back in the stand after what seemed like a month. Set up in a narrow finger woods with cut corn field on my left and been field on my right. Pulled card from camera on way in and had toms of does and only 3 bucks ( non shooters). Be happy with a doe at this point. How do you read your card in the field ? Good luck.., bag a big 'un Woody, I take my digital camera in the woods with me. Well, I'm frustrated! I have never been happy with the way this muzzle loader has shot. And no, It's not the shooter. Had a doe at 85 yrds broadside 15 minutes before dark. Had plenty of time to put cross hairs on her and squeeze the trigger. The shot went right underneath her and she ran off into the woods. So disgusted,I put the gun on my rope and lowered it to the ground. As I turn to take my backpack off the tree, there stands a small 6 pts less than 20 yrds from my stand. Watched him mill around for 15 minutes and finally climbed down the tree. He never ran off, so, I guess that doe that was up wind was in estrus. Going back to archery the rest of the season, until late gun season when I can get the shotgun back out. Tomorrow morning will be a morning shooting ducks.

Sorry about your tough luck there James..
My digital camera (Olympus) takes an XD card while my trail camera is an SD. I'll maybe buy a cheap SD camera..

Decided to use my climber this evening. I'm set up on a flat wooded edge between a cut field and rolling spill piles. There is a old logging road that goes up into the hills and pines. I seen 3 nice bucks on camera and in the flesh in the early season coming in and out of there. I'm hoping I can connect with something tonight. I got my cva optima rifle with me tonight. Good luck everyone!

Went out yesterday morning. Hands were too cold to post anything from the stand but set up by a cut bean field. Had a 2 does come running my way came to full draw and stopped them but they didn't present any shots. Stayed at full draw for what seemed like an eternity and they finally just trotted off. Still love seeing deer in the snow. Probably will only make it out 2 or 3 more times this year but well see how it goes

Decided to give the last day of ML a shot. Light mist and more wind than I'd like. Are a couple of squirrels out

Was forced to go out yesterday and rescue cameras and a blind before the river got to high.
20 minutes. 12 deer. 2 shots. 1 dead doe and one clean miss.
River is/was raising very fast. Not sure I've ever seen it come up that fast.

I hear ya! We were out duck hunting in the bottoms yesterday morning and was standing in less than an inch of water. This morning, that same spot had 4 1/2 feet of water and is still rising. Great job on the doe. I have a hard time hunting deer in the rain.

Buck down. Sadly it is not mine. It was actually poached. A buddy of mine lives on Geist , and was out on fall creek looking for his pontoon. Someone had told him that it probably went over the damn, so that is where he was looking for it. Well he heard something splashing in the water, so he headed over to see what it was. Well, it was a really nice 9 point buck splashing around and about to drown. He said there was no visible wounds on the deer, so he didn't know why it was down. He then went and found a log and put it under his head so he doesn't drown. He then calls me up, I grab my Ruger and head that way. By the time I got there the sheriff was there looking for it. I found it before they did. Sadly, the bush had perished already. I hate that he struggled when the water rose. Long story short, I flip the deer over to start to gut it and I find a hole where a broadhead had entered. It was spined, so that is why the deer was not able to move. I freaking hate poachers. It was pointless to shoot this deer and leave it. I ened up tagging the deer with my own tag, so the officers didn't have to fill out anymore paperwork. I did get a call from a CO tonight about the situation. He said he would like to meet me to give me some paperwork in case something ever comes of it. Here are a couple pictures of him.

Archery season is in. So possible it wasn't poached??? Is this a area protected from hunting??? Possible hunter thought he missed??? Just being devil's advocate. Good buck and do hate to see them suffer.
