Being in the 5th and final year of the OBR trial, I have one question....
WHERE ARE ALL THE BUCK DEER?
We hunted both days of the youth deer hunt......no bucks spotted
We hunted opening day of archery season.......no bucks spotted
We hunted this past weekend at Potoka Lake and a spot in Washington County.....no bucks spotted!!!!!!
From Frecch Lick to the launch ramp (Walls Lake Ramp) on Saturday Morning (4:30am), we seen 32 deer on the sides of the road.....no visable antlers!
We seen deer on the youth hunt....all antlerless
We seen deer opening morning of archery season....no antlers
Nothing has changed for us!
I'm not for or against the OBR....I think it has some possible positives for deer hunting in general....BUT I DON'T BELEIVE WE HAVE AND I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY MORE BUCK DEER THAN I DID 5 YEARS AGO!
I am not complaining, I'm just being honest here.

Sunday evening I saw 28. 5 bucks plus 2 others were fighting behind me. At one time I had 12 deer in a 3 acre alfalfa plot.

So far this year is just like the past several, I've seen more bucks than does to date. Just this weekend. Saturday morning, 2 bucks and 5 does, all at 30 yards or less. One buck was a mid to high 130's 9 pointer. Had him at under 10 yards and let him walk. ;D Shot a doe. Sunday morning 2 does and 12 DIFFERENT bucks. Ten of these bucks came through single file all at 25 yards or less to my tree. No bruisers, so they all got to walk. In my 5 outings, I've seen 9 does and 16 bucks. 80% have been within bow range. You kind of have to hunt were the bucks are at to see them. QDM is a wonderful thing. Oh yea, QDM "can't work in Indiana" or so I've been told on here.

No Dec, what you have been told on here is that the OBR is not QDM. It is a trophy growing scheme and an ineffective one at that.
There are plenty of bucks around Camby(and no the OBR doesn't have anything to do with it), but at least in my area they are still in small bachelor groups and feeding mostly on acorns back in the woods. If you find the right spot you are likely to see several at once, if not you probably won't see any. I've seen one, possibly two this year without hunting any of my best spots yet.

Acorns on the ground everywhere in my neck of the woods, but there is still plenty of standing corn & beans on surrounding properties that are holding the deer.

Saw one nice 12 pointer Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m.....He's now being processed.!!!!!!!!!!!
Woody is going to post the pics of the deer I took Saturday morning but the story about the kill goes like this.......
I got into the tree about 6:45 a.m. Saturday morning, like to get in early so things can settle down and listen to what's going on around me.Anyhow after daylight came there was a doe and yearling that came with in shooting range but I don't shoot does so I just watched them feed off and then about a half hour later another doe came through and there was nothing trailing her. Then at 8:10 a.m. I get a glimpse out of the corner of my right eye of a deer coming my direction,I turned my head just enough to get a good view and saw that it was a nice buck or at least a shooter,he was about 30 yards to my right and going to my left,so as I watched him coming I had to get my hand into the bow which was still hanging to my left,as he turned a bit to look away I managed to get my hand into the sling but wasn't able to take the bow off of the hanger as the deer turned back around but he had no idea about me being there, again as he decided to look back to his rear again I managed to get the bow off the hanger, stand up all in one motion, now I just needed for him to move a little more to my left as he was at this time about 18 yards away but directly in front of me,the deer then moved another five yards or so to my left allowing me to raise the bow and get off the shot. The arrow entered into his left side at an angle ,perfectly I might say..then it passed into his right shoulder,he went maybe 40 yards and that's the story.........

No Dec, what you have been told on here is that the OBR is not QDM. It is a trophy growing scheme and an ineffective one at that. No mbogo, you need to do a search before your fingers start typing. Yes, I've been told OBR does not work. Not denying what you guys argue on that. However, if you run a search you will find much debate over whether QDM (something entirely different than OBR) will or won't work in Indiana. One of them posting in this very thread is one of the strongest voices against QDM in Indiana. So before you go on with your anti-OBR banter with me, do some homework first please.

Absolutely no white oaks or red oaks here. The black oaks are doing well though. We've got one standing corn field that the deer are tearing up. Wind has been wrong all week for that stand. That will change soon.

Five of us have hunted Carroll County the last two week-ends. The good story is we are seeing plenty of deer, just not in bow range. The best part of all..........our newest hunter ( 12 yr. old ) has seen no fewer than three bucks each time out. He got one shot put admitted he was shaking SO hard he couldn't hold the pin on him. ;D We have the youngster sitting in a ladder stand set up in a thicket near water. The bucks are there, but they don't seem to be moving much, just bedding and staying in the corn fields. We are seeing them at night on our trail cams. It really isn't an OBR issue, it's just still too early, very little rub / scrape activity in the woods. I would say the bucks are still in their bachelor groups and in a summer pattern. When you see a buck you will probably see a two or three at a time.

Definately need so kill some does if you aren't seeing antlered deer. Maybe changing locations would help.
