Actually Dec, most guys on here are all for QDM as long as it is voluntary. We can do a poll and put it in a chart for you if you like, lol. It is having an idiotic trophy growing scheme shoved onto us that most have a problem with.
Your not Hunting Far enough From the Truck..."There out there just got to hunt Them" That what experts say here on this site!!!!
I actually killed this one about 400 yards from the truck,so it doesn't make any difference how far away you are as I've killed them from 400 yds. away to over a mile away.I think most of the time if not all it's the amount of time put in scouting, placing a stand and then the ability to set there and make the shot if and when it comes.

Two things make big bucks move during daylight hours. Forced movement is one. This is why several bruisers get killed opening weekend of gun season by guys that aren't even hunting for a big buck. Most people would say the rut is the second thing and they are partially right. The real answer is competition for does during the rut. That is why buck:doe ratios are important. That is why you want a decent percentage of the deer in your area to be mature breeder bucks. They will force each other to move more during daylight hours looking for does, making rubs and scrapes, fighting for dominance, you get the idea. That is what I am hoping for this year. My dad bought 150 acres two years ago. The first year we killed five does and last year we killed ten. Hopefully that will get the big boys up and moving the first week of November.

OBR and antler restrictions are not QDM. That would be like saying starving yourself is the Atkins Diet. QDM is a management program where food plots are planted, does are harvested, and only mature bucks are harvested. Big bucks are a byproduct not the goal. The OBR and antler point restrictions have one-goal bigger bucks. QDM tries to create a balanced sex structure and an overall healthy herd. OBR and antler point restrictions do not care about the health of the herd they only want trophy animals. Also 54% want to kill two bucks next year. So who is the minority?

Nice buck birddog...
Where's all the bucks?I wish I knew, haven't seen one yet..I am thinking they are all down in the river bottoms in the corn and beans.Seeing plenty of does, just haven't had a good shot at one yet.I usually don't see many bucks til the 3rd or 4th week of oct.I'll just have to put my time in and hope one shows up..I'm glad it's going to cool down some maybe that will get them moving around some and kill the skeeters, they found some less than a mile from where I hunt with the west nile virus..

I have seen more bucks for this early in the season than ever before. I have seen 6 different racked bucks in just about 15 total hours on stand. Lots and lots of bucks moving around where I hunt.

Saw two Sat morning, one in the 160's and another in the 130's. Could have shot the 130 but let him pass.

Definately need so kill some does if you aren't seeing antlered deer. Maybe changing locations would help. How is killing does going make him see more antlered deer? With the ability now to kill almost an unlimited amount of does and the OBR, I see in the future when the rut starts there will be alot of frustrated bucks out looking for love. ;D

That is exactly the point whiteoak! Create competition for does and the bucks will move.

Greg, if we do stay with the OBR, what will your excuse be then when you still can't kill a big buck in the following years? Then the rallying cry will change to: "the OBR isn't effective enough so firearms season must be shortened", right?
