Thanks to everyone........ On the shot entry that you see,the blood is not the actual size of the entry hole, the top left hand part of it is actually the entry point, shot went thru and came out in the right side shoulder, actually it was made with a Thunderhead 85 grain broadhead on a carbon shaft.

Pretty buck. Congratulations birddog.
I've seen quite a few bucks in the six outings I've had. Lots of dinks, no shooters yet. Biggest I've seen is a 110 class eight point, and he needs to grow up a couple more years. They're out there.

No shooters after 4 years of OBR? Actually, pre-OBR all of them would have been shooters. Pick your poison. They still are to a large majority of deer hunters on opening weekend of gun season. Nothing changed for them, did it?

I have seen bucks each time out, and some shooters, just not close enough. The ones i have seen are still running in bachelor groups except for a fat four pointer who was traveling with a doe and two fawns. He was the last one in line and definetly was chasing the doe, just acting like one of the kids along for a walk. All the other bucks have been traveling in groups still.

There arent any more bucks then before the obr. The buck herd has not changed. By now the woods should be crawling with a surplus of at least 120 class deer. The problem is they are getting killed during firearm season instead of bow season now. Just because a buck lives for four years doesnt mean its gonna grow a huge rack either. How many hunting shows do you see where they cull an older buck whos rack is "inferior" so hes not breeding anymore? If you do see a small buck pass on it so a shotgunner can drill it. I think I just figured out a benefit from the obr. More welfare bucks in firearm season = more opportunity for quick kills = non trophy hunters out of the woods sooner = less likely they would get a shot at a big buck. Is this how the obr is supposed to work ?

The bucks are still grouped up in most areas. Find out where they are hanging out, be careful going in and you could see several. Concentrate around afternoon food sources for best results. Hunt where they aren't and you won't see any.
The cold front coming in later this week should push some buck activity. A couple weeks from now and they will be all over the place. First, the yearlings and two and a halfs will start aggravating does and chasing. The big boys will start to do some checking, but mainly at night. Mature bucks are primarily nocturnal creatures most of the year.
Two things make big bucks move during daylight hours. Forced movement is one. This is why several bruisers get killed opening weekend of gun season by guys that aren't even hunting for a big buck.
Most people would say the rut is the second thing and they are partially right. The real answer is competition for does during the rut. That is why buck:doe ratios are important. That is why you want a decent percentage of the deer in your area to be mature breeder bucks. They will force each other to move more during daylight hours looking for does, making rubs and scrapes, fighting for dominance, you get the idea.
Never fear, buck sightings will pick up as the season progresses. It happens this way every year. Good luck!
