I haven't researched it because it doesn't apply to me, but not that many years back DNR said the land had to be classified as agricultural on the country tax roles. Seen that statement more than a few times. Yes, there are two routes. The one you mention is #2 in the Code. Most use #1. The word "or" allows you to choose one without the other. IC 14-22-11-1"Farmland"; license requirements and conditions; public use airport manager reporting requirements
Sec. 1. (a) As used in this section, "farmland" means agricultural land that is:
(1) devoted or best adaptable for the production of crops, fruits, timber, and the raising of livestock; or
(2) assessed as agricultural land for property tax purposes.

As concerned as they are about getting fees increased recently, there is no way they will open the floodgates to free hunting to property owners of just any property. Right now, just about anyone with acreage in the country beyond their mowed lawn is tagging as a landowner, regardless of crops or livestock. The "best adaptable" clause of the code means that you don't actually have to farm a property, only that the land is suitable as such should you choose to farm it. The big loophole is saying the trees in your woods are an unharvested timber farm. I have a lifetime license (and only one acre), so it's a moot point for me. But I couldn't count the number of hunters I've encountered over 30 years of living out here who don't farm but claim landowner status. hunt-indiana.com/thread/67142/landowner-tags

After seeing this thread, I checked out some available leases in adjoining counties online. MANY said "not much cover, but should yield deer during certain times of the year." This tells me that it's poor land that someone wants to make money off of. Deer aren't staying there, but you just might, might see a deer that bumbles through during the rut. Lol!

I'd pass this one if I saw it in person. I haven't gotten a single pic yet of a buck I'd take this year. I'm supposed to try for a doe for a buddy this weekend, but wouldn't you know it, rain forecast all weekend. I have a tree umbrella, so it just depends on my mood. Lol! Give me a call if you need help dragging. I am pretty good standing back and yelling insults or encouragements. Just depends on what motivates you Food usually does the trick. Lol! His woods are all one the side of a ridge, so any drag will be downhill with gravity on my side. He doesn't want to pay for processing, so he's going to attempt to cut one up himself if I score. Looks like he may be wet doing so. Lol!

New buck just showed up 7 minutes ago. Never seen him before. Looks like an 11, with a split G2 on the right side. Better get that smokeless gun ready…. Don’t wait till Friday 😊 I'd pass this one if I saw it in person. I haven't gotten a single pic yet of a buck I'd take this year. Fortunately I've never had to lease. I've always been able to hunt private ground for free without even having any sweat equity involved. I had access to about 2000 acres, but due to property sales over the years, I'm down to a 250-acre farm and another around 100 acres. Neither have crops or food plots.
I think the leases I've seen near me are around $12 an acre.

I first thought nightvision scope was the answer. I looked at a lot of scopes and then purchased a Sightmark. Scope is good, but there are issues with nightvision scopes. They are digital, which means the sight picture will be blurry until it is held still long enough to focus. Second, they are only good for open ground. When focused for a certain distance, if you sweep past a tree limb, weeds, etc the sight picture goes blurry until you are back to an open view. One small correction. Optics like the Sightmark and ATN X-Sight are not true nightvision optics. They use CCD or CMOS technology, and do work at night. True military grade nightvision uses an image tube. That's not to say that digital nightvision won't surpass analog night vision in the next decade, but for now, you can't beat image tubes for clarity and light amplification. The "hardcore" coyote hunters that choose nightvision instead of thermal use helmet-mounted PVS-14's in conjunction with an IR laser.

End day you are not going to kill them all, as coyote's home ranges are huge. I agree. And the thing about coyote biology is that when their population is down, litters become larger. The more you kill, the more are born. I bought a Pulsar Thermion XP50 thermal scope three years ago and put it on a custom .22-250, and I've yet to put a half hour usage on the scope. $5K for the scope alone and it just sits in the safe.

IMO if Indiana moved gun season and crossbow season to December, we'd have the best deer hunting in the world. Best for whom? Trophy hunters? Meat hunters? Gun hunters? Bow hunters?

Saw an old friend at a reunion of sorts last night that I hadn't seen in over 10 years (he lives on the next road west of you, Duff.) Anyway, I used to give him deer meat years ago, and he asked when I was going to bring him one. Well, I've about all but given up shooting does anymore (I've become a softie, Lol), but I'm going to offer today to shoot him one on his own property. I'll be breaking out the ol' smokeless muzzleloader next weekend anyway. He has 21 acres with 10 acres of it woods. He walks his dog on trails through the woods a few times a day and jumps deer at least once every day, but obviously they keep coming back to be jumped up the next day. I'm confident that I can get him one there on the muzzleloader opener.

I think the state has done a great job of reducing the antlerless quotas -- lots of counties with 2's now. I recall not too very long ago when the quota map was covered with 8's. Not a single 4 on there now, which means no special antlerless hunt. Short of dropping the county quotas to 1, I don't know what else can be done.

We drove past your house on the way to town to confirm. Lol! What threw me off is that I still call that area Springville. I consider Judah mostly on the east side of Hwy. 37. Oh. It wasn't me then. I was east of 37 but in a red truck and next to some downed trees What's funny is the truck was the same year range and color of yours. Lol! Parked just inside a gate on the edge of a cut cornfield. What a coincidence.

Good public land buck! I bet it was something for him to be awakened by his father and having to get a shot off. Lol!

I can't remember exactly what you drive, but did you park next to a bunch of cut-up logs this morning in a red truck? If so, I know exactly where you are. Maybe! If Rural King still carried the Hawk Denali 1.5 ladder stands, I'd buy them all. They are the most comfortable stand I have ever sat in after almost 30 years of deer hunting! They are also the tallest ladders I can find. I bought five on clearance four years ago and wish I'd have bought their entire stock!

Back in the stand I killed both does. My bro is next to standing corn. Pretty quiet out today. I can't remember exactly what you drive, but did you park next to a bunch of cut-up logs this morning in a red truck? If so, I know exactly where you are.
