If you move to Iowa where’s there’s giants behind every tree due to their great regulations would you put in for a draw to hunt here?

I live out of state. Not sure I would buy points or put in for a draw to hunt IN.
I’ve hunted IA and MT using pref points.
The rise in price of tags for NR this past year made me skip the combo license for the first time. Used to be $250 for combo and now $550 just isn’t worth it.
I hunt IN to spend time with friends and hunt solid private land not to trophy hunt.

I would personally reciprocate tags prices and draw status from the state they are residents of. Treat that states residents the same that state treats non residents. It would be a pain in the backside Im sure, but that makes sense to me.

I think it's silly for a any state to not prioritize the citizens of that state by limiting the amount of NR's. People talk a lot about hunter numbers dropping. IMO the main reason for this is that the 1000 acre chunk of land that was hunted by 20 regular dudes in the 80's, is now leased up by one wealthy guy from out of state. Limiting the number of NR's is the best way to make hunting affordable for residents. That guy from NY is much less likely to lease land in a state he can only hunt every 4 or 5 years. IMO states that have no limit on NR's are absolutely crapping on their residents.

I thought Indiana was a reciprocating state? I know that Im not allowed to trap in Indiana because my state does not allow NR trapping. Would be a shame if I couldnt come down to hunt with family on the years that time would allow it.
I spent $620 on tags, cant see the state wanting to turn that money away.

Nonresident annual trapping license is 140.00 Yes, for people that are from state's that allow NR trapping. MN residents are not allowed NR trapping in Indiana. The MN Trappers Ass. votes on NR trapping every year and turns this into the DNR. I have voted for NR every year. |

See a lot of these discussions late in the season in every state. It usually revolves around sour grapes because the out of state guys did better than me or have a better place to hunt than me.
Putting more restrictions on out of state recreation is jut plain silly.
Do you want to have to draw to be able to go fish Minnesota, Michigan or Wisconsin?
Do you want to have to to draw to spend time on the Florida beaches this winter?
Do you want to have to draw to go houseboating in Kentucky or Tennessee?
And what about people that live near the state line? They may have easier better access or friends very close by across the line and choose to hunt the other state annually because it's close, easy, and they have relationships.
We should be thankful that there are some states like IN that still allow non residents the ability to come hunting and get their license over the counter.

Make it so one race of people could not survive so another could be moved onto their land. Partly fueled by the expanding industries in the east that required the leather for belts that were driven by steam and hydro. |

Does anybody have a number of nonresident licenses sold each year, and their success rate? I'm memory serves, Indiana averages about 50% success rate overall. If nonresident hunter numbers and success rate are relatively low, then what is the end game? Then again, what is the end game period? Are we trying to save deer? Are we trying to force landowners to lease to local people? Are we trying to make more money?
