I thought the whole thing was a bit over hyped, over rated. Were you in the totality zone? If not, I can understand your point. For eclipses, it's 100% or bust.

Just saw this thread for the first time, as I only view the Campfire forum maybe once a year. Prayers for your wife! I'm glad to read that she's doing better, and that you guys got to experience the eclipse.

That was cool. Looking forward to the next one in 2044! Best I could get but not even close to justice The big let down was not being able to take a photo that mimicked what we saw with the naked eye. I will say one thing -- if you weren't in the totality zone, it would be pretty underwhelming. Even at 99%, I wasn't impressed at all. The moment your glasses go dark at 100% and you lower them is the surreal, other-worldly part.

I bought my lifetime hunting license for $525 in 1999 -- and I still remember even after 25 years the big disagreement my wife and I had over that purchase. We'd only been married 3 1/2 years at the time and she didn't work, so $525 was a lot of money then. I don't regret passing on the fishing portion for another $225, as I've only bought two fishing licenses since then and wouldn't have gotten my money's worth.

Better dig out the ammo and gun…. Your never to old to kill a Turkey 🦃 Lol! I've had a brand new camo Remington 870 turkey gun leaned up in the corner of my bedroom for years (out of room in the safe). I actually picked it up and dusted it off yesterday! I have calls, decoys, and a lifetime license, so I really have no excuse.

It's been at least a decade since I saw a turkey at the house, maybe longer. I guess word has finally gotten out that I haven't turkey hunted in years. Lol!

I hunted at Big Oaks with Chris once. He killed two 10-pointers that day and I didn't even get to fire a shot. Lol! That's what happened to all the deer in #75 lol Good memory!

You ever deal with any of the local CO'S? My first cousin is a Switzerland County CO. I have spoke with our local CO couple times. Matt Hicks is name. Yep, Matt is the one. Our fathers are brothers.

Ran into a local retired CO at store today from SC, said he talked to some DNR officials and already talk of lowering bonus antlerless limits for 24-25 in SC. You ever deal with any of the local CO'S? My first cousin is a Switzerland County CO.

I'm due for a new cold weather set myself. I'm guessing that mine are 20 years old -- the earliest photo I can find with me wearing them is 2006, and I'm sure I was wearing them before that. I'm partial to bibs for colder weather, as they keep drafts from your lower back better. Way back when, I spent $600 on Cabela's Scent-Lok MT050 bibs, parka, and gloves. They've kept me decently warm, but I've always longed for something better. I own a Heater Body Suit, but it's only practical in a ladder stand and it's still cumbersome then.
I'm open to suggestions as well. I would love Predator Fall Grey, but my choices seem to be pretty limited with that camo choice. I'm not afraid to spend money to stay warm, so let's hear some good options.
I now only have one glove, my parka won't zip up if I unzip it completely, and my bibs are shredded from barbed wire fences and briars.

I haven’t listened to the podcast, can anyone help me out? I’m reading he shot it at his sisters property? Where is the discrepancy in written permission? That was his story, alledgally he took it there and field dressed, and took some pics. even called a CO to come look at it. Sounds like it was killed somewhere else, probably won't know for sure until case is closed, and ODNR releases the info. A rumor I read was that the buck resided on some wealthy family's property that hasn't allowed hunting in half a century and that the kid snuck in (trespassed) and killed it. I also read somewhere that the County DA was after the buck too. Lol!

Why don’t you do us all a favor and just give us a short version in your own words ….😊 And take all the fun out of the web he's woven? Lol! Be glad I spared you the first 55 minutes. 😉

So you're saying he didn't sit in the stand for 12 hours, hear it roar twice like a dinosaur, then make a bad 7-yard shot after watching it walk towards him for an hour?

I've hunted quite a few farms in my area FOR FREE that are now under Basecamp leasing, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't pay a nickel to hunt them. I feel sorry for anyone paying and hoping for a giant.
