You wanting bare ground or just kill broadleaf weeds? 2-4-D will get 'weeds' not the grass. Too the residual effect of spraying could make starting over replanting whatever your doing very slow . There is no residual effect from Roundup. It neutralizes when it hits the soil. Shouldn't be any reason you can't replant in a coule of days after shooting roundup. Although I would wait until you see the weeds turn, before inter seeding. maddog

Woody, bush hog first, give it 3-4 days[so the weeds are actively growing], then hit it with roundup, or a generic glyphosate.

We need a new law, not to make anymore laws!!! But that means the lawmakers we elect would sit around doing nothing all day. And your point is....? ;D maddog

Been reading every one's views on all the rule changes. This is my 1st post on any of it. I've been deer hunting, here in Indiana since the mid 70's. Started when you were allowed 1 with a gun and 1 with a bow. I've seen all the changes in the last 30+ years. For the most part, I don't have a problem with a majority of the rule changes, except the following: No way they should shorten/change the general firearms/ML seasons. It's kinda like cutting off your nose, to spite your face. Legalize crossbows for everything. I used to bow hunt with a compound, and hunted for over a decade with traditional archery equipment. Even owned a trad. archery shop/mail order business. Didn't have a problem with crossbows then, and don't have one now. You guys are right, it will help take additional antlerless deer. Not sure about a 7 day antlerless season in Oct. Temps are generally warm, and crops still in the field, not sure it will have a big impact. The late Dec. antlerless season is ok by me. Cartridge case length. This is the only personal one for me. I have a .45-70, I love my .45-70, and would love to hunt with my .45-70 for deer. DNR allow it, and I might kill a couple extra deer next yr, because I could use it. Hint, hint ;D Now I'm going to get to my personal crux of the matter. For me, I like to take 3 deer a yr. for the freezer/jerky making. That can be a buck and 2 does, or, like last year, 3 does[turned down 7 bucks, not big enough]. By the time I buy a firearms tag, and , like last yr. a ML tag, plus a couple of bonus tags, I'm pretty much tapped out on paying for paper. Couple that with an avg. cost of $80 or so for processing each deer, and I'm up in the $325/$350 range for hunting. To take more deer, we have to attract more hunters. Also, in this general state of economic woes, we need to get the tag prices down, or offer incentives to take additional antlerless deer, period. I'll be 60, next yr., I don't know how many more yrs. I'll be hunting yet, or how many I'll continue to try to take each yr. Most of the guys around home, are like me, getting older. Not as much fire in the belly to "fill all the tags", like we all used to have. Fewer young guys seem to be coming into the fold, at least around here. My only "rant" in this diatribe is buck licenses. You shouldn't have to buy 3 danged licenses to hunt 1 buck! Sell 1 buck tag, and attach at least 1 doe tag to it, good for all appropriate seasons! Antlerless tags should be good anytime, with any legal weapon! And again, don't forget me and my .45-70....I MIGHT take a couple extra deer, for the state to give to folks "older than me", just for the privilage of taking my baby hunting! ;D Ok, enough from this ole codger, carry on. Took 3, 2 with PCR and 1 with muzzleloader. Didn't answer the firearms, because you couldn't pick more than 1.

It would seem that 13 other states are considering the same strategy. yes, and Indiana needs to be the 14th. Mad Dog

irishhunter, spring or fall is great. I tried to post to you the other day, but had trouble logging on. I like the spring, cause it's after a long cold winter, and its fun to get away. You don't need that much for a 2-3 day hunt. Just bring your regular hunting close, and favorite deer gun, and go have fun!

actually, in SA, the zebra and wildebeast hides are used pretty regularly for walk on rugs. Don't get me wrong, it won't get heavy foot traffic, but I have walked on it, and even used the sweeper on it. ;D The hide is tough, and the hair is napped real short and tight. H**l, if it wears out, gives me a good excuse to go shoot another one! ;D ;D

Mythic 1, it's a high fence hunting preserve. But for TN., its a big preserve[2400 acres]. Except for California, I don't think you will find many european/russian type hogs, free range. In the eastern half of the US, Florida and Texas are the places to go for free range. I've wanted to shoot a russian type hog, for a long time. The majority of the hogs taken while I was there, were the russian type. Only saw 3 feral type taken, and you could obviously tell the difference. I considered it a real hunt, and the fence wasn't an issue on the mtn. we hunted.

My son and I just got back from Wilderness Hunting Lodge for a boar hunt. We had a great time. 1st preserve I ever hunted that indeeddoes have russian boar. Food, lodging, and people were great! Another plus, you can hunt by yourself, without a guide, which is what my son and I did. Here's some pics. 280 lb. sow, taken with 45-70 guide gun and 300 gr. nosler part. handloads Dan's boar taken with H&R handi rifle, 44 mag, and leverevolution ammo. website for those interested. www.wildernesshuntinglodge.com/maddog
