Ive got a guy who has contacted me about an over population of racoons. He has got his deer and has started baiting them for the winter and the racoons are eating all the corn/feed Is it legal to hunt them over the feeder or put out cat food and or tuna to thin them out? And he is the land owner.
Thanks

How about fix the rifle law and add air rifles? Double win! Although I dont use HP rifles. I dont care what people use as long as it does the job.

I dont think a seperate lic is the answere. Would end up loosing money from low number of sales. Just include them in rifle season like every other state.

With them thoughts maybe a equipment lic. Is the answer to gain lost funds.... just ramp up the price. Yeah, I can see that happening. NOT!! Who will monitor that, who pays for the labor to monitor that and who monitors the mfg's to make sure they are sending the checks in the correct amount to the correct place? Fortunately for the airgunners the manufacturers are backing the legality to hunt big game. Sure they want to sell airguns but they are also hunters. Airforce, crossman,Umerex and Hatsan are all sponsoring hunters. If you have the pursuit channel there is going to be a Lethal Air. Show starting this month. Keep an eye out for it.

These air rifles are already $1000-$1800 depending on what you get. You can get some for around $650-$800 with less power but still. I should get credited money back for not getting a deer 3 years in a row by that thinking. I pay for 3 liscenses a year already. You know how many more deer a year I see in my county? Zero compared to the previous year and we have a no bonus quota. I still see maybe 4 bucks and 4 does each year on a 90acre woods with 300acres of fields. So that tax is doing squat for hunting in my county. Might see 2 road kills during the rut if you are lucky. And I drive daily all over 2 counties. So excuse me if I think adding more money to conservation in Indiana is the answere. Conservation is on us hunters not the tax man. Allowing air guns to harvest deer isnt going to add revenue to fix the deer herds nor is it going to hurt them. But it would sell 1 more gun tags in my family and Im sure over a few years many more. My son being a little 13yr old cant reach the trigger on most long rifles. He can put a slug within 2” of bull at 70yds every shot with my .457 air rifle though.

O.K., reloading components are NOT subject to the 11% PR excise tax, so by me reloading 95% of my own ammunition I am in the same boat as anybody shooting an air rifle. Only the air rifle is the thing that is not taxed as compared to a hunter using a cartridge firing rifle. So, in my mind, the PR argument is a moot point, because just like the State of Indiana's stance on High Powered handguns used for deer hunting, not enough people use them to hunt with to make it an issue. Good to know! Also if they are not beeing taxed now why should they be taxed just for deer? They arent in any other state. And I make all my own ammo for my big bores. I buy pellets for .25 and under. You arent going to find anything over .22 in any place but online anyway. No one even carries .25 and up airguns in a brick and mortar. Unless its an airgun shop and we have 1 in all of indiana. Keep the comments coming. It’s a good subject and it is being worked on to get them legal in indiana by more than just me.

Ohio does not, but I'm not sure how funds go the ODNR. On our taxes at the very end we have an option to donate there. Like 3 or 5 dollars to check. LIscenses stamps along with ramp fees park pass fees. We also have the option to donate on our taxes. I do $5 a year.

IMO, these guns are nothing more than another tool for hunting. If the state decides to allow them, I have no problem with it. Having said that, I don't see the point of handicapping myself with a gun with very limited ranges that are very expensive (as compared to the legal firearms available now). But...to each their own. You are right they are expensive! Good point. And poachers would more than likely not spend the $800-$2000 for the equipment to use them. Ive got $2500 in my .457 all included. Could spend another $300-$400 on hand grips and trigger gaurd. This is not including my tanks and compressor. But here I am as an advocate using air rifles to hunt over my rifles and shotguns. Its just a different method as you say. But it is a fun and adictive tinkering hobby.

Hey guys they are not ever going to be included in that tax. That argument has flown the coop. They are already legal in at least 13 states for Deer and nearly every state for small game and many states for fur bearers. And they are not the same as a muzzle loader. There is zero powder or ignition involved. And what ammo are you going to tax? All lead? Then you double tax firearm ammo. How about the air you breath? Its also its propelant. Hows 1 cent a cubic centimeter sounding to you? By the way you breath in about 100 times that per inhale. So $1 a breath. This is a joke right? Im fairly sure my $1800 week to hunt in another state for deer would be better spent in Indiana. But I guess since our state doesnt get a .01 tax they loose out on money? I do not hunt the deer gun season here. I buy an out of state tag. More money lost to our Wildlife. I only bow hunt here. I already use airguns for EVERYTHING I hunt but DEER. And they dont just go up to .45. Ive shot a .50 a 12 gauge and 20mm beast! Heres the bullet of the 20mm 1550gr next to my .457

OH I will! They are all I use after I get my bow deer for the year. If you havent shot a big bore like mine then you are missing out on some fun! Even more so when your own hand cast slug drops a deer within 20yds. Nothing like it! Unless you craft your own arrows and long bow.

My issue with them being legal in Indiana is the pay 0 zero in PR funds.... if that was to change then we could consider them. Explain PR funds to me? I’m unsure what PR funds we should have to pay to use an air rifle? It is not a firearm and can not be construed as one in any circumstance as there is no detonation. Lot of other states around for me to hunt deer with them so I’m not to worried about it. But it would be nice to do in my home state. Next year I’m going back to Virginia or Texas. Also considering Kentucky or Tenn. I’ll just continue killing coyotes and squirrels with them until Indiana makes deer legal. If ever. I would just rather hunt with an air stick.
