Lengthy phone call with Fish & Wildlife. They welcome any meeting that might lead to increased funding for DNR. I am still leery of legislative involvement in license fees for the agency. That said I'll be watching them at this meeting as we all should.

It appears that an amendment (Amendment 4) was passed by House yesterday. I've read it twice but it seems to call for another meeting to discuss fee increases. Maybe someone else can interpret what's up. iga.in.gov/documents/e2e542deSec. 16. (a) Before December 1, 2022, the division shall meet to discuss with representatives of fishing organizations, hunting organizations, trapping organizations, conservation organizations, and license holders, concerning: (1) funding sources and sustainable funding levels for the division; (2) the creation of or increases in license and permit fees for the division, including fees for nonlicense holders who use division services or properties; (3) private and public lands access; and (4) investment and management costs; and submit recommendations regarding the topics set forth in subdivisions (1) through (4) to the general assembly in an electronic format under IC 5-14-6. (b) The department shall notify the members of the general assembly of a meeting of the division and the representatives set forth in subsection (a) seven (7) days before the meeting. (c) This section expires July 1, 2023. ".

Welcome to the Monday Fire Drill. I just received intel that Representatives Randy Frye (District 67) and Tim Wesco (District 21) are working on a floor amendment to the DNR agency bill that would roll-back the recently approved license fee package that we all worked with the Natural Resources Commission to get approved last Fall (Support letter attached). This amendment could be offered as soon as this Wednesday. This is just another attack on an already battered fish and wildlife agency that has been operating at minimal capacity due to funding challenges. If the legislature is successful at undoing the work of the NRC, it would set a dangerous precedent that none of us want to see. It is imperative that all of us make contact with these legislators and activate our respective networks to do likewise and let them know that the license fee package is supported and is necessary to ensure the agency has the resources it needs to deliver good customer service as well as carry-out all of their obligated responsibilities to manage our public trust resources. Without adequate license fee revenue Indiana will lose its ability to capture the record-high levels of Pittman-Robertson dollars made available to the states via the federal excise tax collected on guns and ammunition. These are dollars that hardworking Hoosiers deserve to have come back to the state, but that only happens if the state can put-up the statutory match requirement.

Why would you go to work at 35,000 for them if you had student loans you never would make enough to pay them off. IDK not that long ago you could make it at 35,000 not all that great but could be done at what stuff cost today you be dang close to poverty. I went to Kroger yesterday and spent 65 bucks and that’s no meat pop chips or that kind of stuff basically just your weekly stuff milk coffee bread some fruit and veggies, and then I went and put 80 bucks in gas in my truck If you work for the government and make payments on your loans, the balance will be waived after 10 years. The state also has a pension plan (10 years vesting) , health benefits are cheaper than most places, and it is stable. It's also great training for someone to work for a few years, then go to the private sector and make some $$$. Also, it's great for working families that need flexibility and time off. People take these jobs because they love the work and they believe in what they are doing. There are amazingly smart, dedicated people working for the state because they believe in the cause. However, the longer you are there the more the BS politics wear you down and you lose faith in the cause. Then some of the appointed positions are mind blowing. You basically have to choose time and no money, or money and no time. It's great for dual income families, but not so much single income households. Government has it's benefits, but the salary ain't one of them! This is all true. I worked for the state for 17 years made section chief at IDEM and finally Division Director at IDOH. The private sector came calling and offered me a bag full of money to work for them which I did for 14 years. I was able to completely retire at age 56. The state is a great training ground much like the military. The real money is in the private sector.

INFF coalition members: We recently heard that Rep Eberhart was on the fence about hearing HB1253, old forests areas of state forests (http://iga.in.gov/legislative/2022/bills/house/1253) at this coming Monday’s natural resources committee hearing. In past years he has not wanted to hear it. In addition, the author, Chris May (R), is close to DNR director Bortner. Both of these lead us to think our position isn’t as solid as it was. The latest update is Eberhart doesn’t plan on hearing it Monday. But the INFF policy committee thinks it would be helpful if coalition members shared their opposition to the bill with Rep Eberhart, just to make sure he knows there are plenty of groups opposed to it. This would be helpful to do by this Thursday morning as he finalizes his hearing schedule, although anytime between now and Monday would be very helpful. Rep Sean Eberhart (chair of house natural resources committee): 800-382-9841, H57@iga.in.gov Rep Chris May (author): 800-382-9841, H65@iga.in.gov Let DNR do their job and manage the forest. This bill is proposed every year by tree huggers out of Bloomington. iga.in.gov/legislative/2022/bills/house/1253HatchetJack

I can’t believe they consider this a loaded weapon: Ammunition in close proximity to the firearm so that a person can readily insert the ammunition into the firearm There's a lot in this bill I can't believe. HJ
