INFF coalition members: We recently heard that Rep Eberhart was on the fence about hearing HB1253, old forests areas of state forests (http://iga.in.gov/legislative/2022/bills/house/1253) at this coming Monday’s natural resources committee hearing. In past years he has not wanted to hear it. In addition, the author, Chris May (R), is close to DNR director Bortner. Both of these lead us to think our position isn’t as solid as it was. The latest update is Eberhart doesn’t plan on hearing it Monday. But the INFF policy committee thinks it would be helpful if coalition members shared their opposition to the bill with Rep Eberhart, just to make sure he knows there are plenty of groups opposed to it. This would be helpful to do by this Thursday morning as he finalizes his hearing schedule, although anytime between now and Monday would be very helpful. Rep Sean Eberhart (chair of house natural resources committee): 800-382-9841, H57@iga.in.gov Rep Chris May (author): 800-382-9841, H65@iga.in.gov Let DNR do their job and manage the forest. This bill is proposed every year by tree huggers out of Bloomington. iga.in.gov/legislative/2022/bills/house/1253HatchetJack

I can’t believe they consider this a loaded weapon: Ammunition in close proximity to the firearm so that a person can readily insert the ammunition into the firearm There's a lot in this bill I can't believe. HJ

Excellent presentation on how DNR is funded. Rumor is DNR is facing another funding decrease from the legislature.

Just to be clear, these two events are PHEASANT hunts not deer hunts.

Could be an interesting meeting (that I will have to miss). Agenda item# 4 is proposed new fees. Wasn't too bad until I got to the hunting and fishing licenses. Meeting is next Tuesday at 5 PM at McCormick's Creek State Park. www.in.gov/nrc/meetings-and-minutes/current-meeting-agenda/HatchetJack
