Lately, I’ve been contacted from various “groups” interested in surveying my timber land for entry in their “Carbon offset” programs. Not one to jump into this game, I’m a bit skeptical. Anybody here involved in such a program? Or have first hand knowledge of such?

I tried to Google programs out there regarding all of this, thinking maybe it's some kind of USDA subsidy program.
Couldn't find a lick of info other than various companies wanting me to donate monthly to their carbon reduction projects.

I wonder if it's similar to wetland banking?

Not sure if it’s the same but this is what I’ve heard about it Companies that can’t comply with the standards for things like clean air or water waste treatment soil conditions can buy credits from us because we are producing clean air with forests they buy the credits apply them to themselves somehow and can get around the law with enough of them it offsets the amount they are producing I know that’s not all of it and not 100 % right but it’s along those lines

Again I could be wrong but I believe wind and solar farms sell a lot of them Heard farmers can with strips of grass along creeks rivers as it cleans the run off before it enters the stream forested areas can for air. I’ve also heard that big warehouses with motion lights can qualify with enough of them. I’ve also heard this is one of the reason big companies like amazon Hertz are trying to switch to electric trucks cars the government helps either by grants taxes and then they’ can sell off credits

I know a guy whose grandson told me he got paid to plant a bunch of saplings on a property he had recently bought. From what he told me, warehouses were built in the area and they had to plant trees to mitigate the environmental impacts of clearing the land for the warehouses. They paid him, purchased the trees, and paid a company to plant the trees.
I wish I had known of the program before I planted 1,000 saplings a few years ago!

Thanks for the link! Interesting info. I listened to it, $5-$15/acre per year, first they look on the satellite, then before the contract is signed they have to put boots on the ground.
