Bow shop was hopping. Got some more arrows and broadheads for spares and they had plenty of 30.06 ammo, so picked up two boxes as well.

Couple 1.5 year olds wandering around at a distance. Couldn't tell if they smelled me, or something else has them acting up.

Nearly had my first opportunity out of my saddle. 3 does came from across the creek behind me at 15 yards from the neighbor's place. Not the direction I was hoping for as the lead doe smelled me. Didn't blow, but trotted away before I could get a shot.

What a fun hunt. We had the same 3 does come out for 3 evening hunts in a row. The lead doe was extremely wary of the blind. My fault for not getting it out there sooner before season. They came to the field about 45 minutes earlier today.
The first time the lead doe was spooked about 45 yards out and gave no shot. 15 minutes later my daughter was lining up to shoot at 30 yards. When she clicked off the crossbow safety the doe bolted.
Maybe 15 more minutes we were ready with the blind window open and crossbow up on the shooting sticks. The same doe came in again. I was crouched down in the blind trying to rangefinder it but the laser kept hitting limbs I had brushed the blind in with. I finally got a range of 33 yards, but then the doe turned away from us and finally was quartering away.
When my daughter shot I was watching through the rangefinder. It dropped on the spot with a high lung hit then into the spine. It ended up being 39 yards when the doe turned. Hugs and high fives after finally getting a shot on our nemesis. Texted the landowner and he came out while we gutted it. Got it quartered and on ice now. Hopefully she can be back out on Sunday. Rehabbing and repacking equipment tomorrow.

We ended up seeing 6 does. 1 was in range at 45 yards, but was head on and giving us the stink eye so we didn't shoot. It never would turn broadside.

Back in the blind with my daughter. Very windy here and cool, but maybe the deer will be hungry soon.

Exciting hunt but couldn't quite seal the deal. Doe fed to 32 yards but I made the mistake if getting her into position after the doe was in range. We had a rodeo trying to get her into position. It saw something it didn't like about the blind and trotted out of range.
Then saw a 6 point harass the 3 remaining does. He came to about 50 yards but another deer in the brush behind us at 10 yards blew like hell at us for 30 minutes. He didn't like that and circled away to harass another doe way out of range. The 3 remaining does never came in with all the blowing and stomping.
I had to coyote howl to get them out of the field. On the plus side she was very excited and had a great time.

We have a 4 does feeding in the field.... at 75 yards. Hopefully one gets into range in the daylight we have left.

Settled into a hunting blind on the edge of a cut cornfield with my youngest. Wind isn't the best, so hopefully this blind helps a little.

I'm taking a night off from hunting to recon a cut corn field. Have 14 does in the field right now. Hopefully can get my daughter in a blind here tomorrow night.

As Steven Tyler once sang, I'm back in the saddle again... on HNF that is. Thick with brush and raining white oak acorns. A fair amount of good sign but I ran out of time to scout more so I've set up on a scrape line.

I'm set up on the HNF in an oak flat for my first ever saddle hunt. Leaves are bone dry. Even my poor ears may hear one coming.. Let us know how you like it ! I want a saddle bad lol If anyone got a saddle and hates it , lmk..... I’ve got climbers and 2 man stands I’d trade lol It was very comfortable. Still figuring out all the little tweaks in the setup to make it even more so. Getting kneepads will be a must. I'm using 4 Hawk step and a platform so that's a little heavy. Out in a double ladder with my daughter today so won't get another saddle chance until this weekend.

In the stand with my youngest. Just had 14 turkeys come through in bow range. No deer seen yet. Hope he or she gets a monster. Thanks. Unfortunately no deer were seen tonight. Hopefully her homework gets done in time tomorrow to try again.
